Pirates in the news


The big story that has the pirate radio community buzzing this week comes from the UK. Posted on the OFSCOM website comes the story of the Pirate Op that has been banned from every rooftop in London.

Kieran O’Sullivan received the antisocial behavior order (ASBO) following a successful prosecution by Ofcom.

He also received an 18 week custodial sentence suspended for 12 months, a three month curfew, a 12 hundred pound fine, and had his radio equipment seized.

I read on Karl Hakkarainen's Blog "A traveler from the world of work" that he was driving around Worcester Mass and found a few stations not listed on the Radio Locator web site as licensed broadcasters. 102.9 with west African music, and a possible ID of 94.7FM talk.  and 105.5 Flava 105.5 - FM, that has reportable been around for a while. Their format is reggae/Caribbean, with some pretty wild preaching on Sunday.  Thats two station in Worcester Mass 102.9 and 105.5 FM

The Poet posts the warning to other OPs that if you broadcast with power, you may want to stay away from the  U verse. Seems his signal is getting into the internet providers Box that routs the Phone, TV and internet signal, shutting the entire thing down. He reports that he loses Phone, TV and Internet every time he fires up his Viking II. Hes looking into Ferrite chokes.

Drop from Lex in Texas on his Palstar R30C caught  Barnyard Radio, 9/28/09, 2244-0048 UTC, 6930 USB. Comedy sketches including George Carlin's "Wonderful WINO Radio", Don Rickles with Johnny Carson on Tonight Show, Bob & Doug McKenzie "Great White North" sketch from SSTV, Steve Martin "Let's Get Small", others. Dr. Octagon "Earth People" song, other novelty tunes. Commentary from station op Chuck Manson interspersed throughout show. Overall SINPO - 43333, tho' noise from static crashes and local RFI increased after dark. Signal hovered around S5-S7 with some S9 peaks on an indoor antenna.
