Assessment Tasks – To Assess for Deep Understanding

 

  

Assessment for learning (ways you will gather students' prior knowledge)

 

 

  • Brainstorm - class discussion after viewing 'You Tube' clip (Size of the Universe) and record on IWB.
  • Hands-on activity- Using manipulatives/different size balls representing planets, Earth, moon, sun and orbits/movements.

 

 

Assessment as learning (throughout the study checking for misconceptions)
 
 
  • Role Play - Teacher to observe small groups and make anecdotal notes of small groups acting out aspects related to the solar system.
  • Quizzes - Students to answer questions using SMART Response clickers.
     

 

 

Assessment of learning (at conclusion of inquiry). Attach a separate culminating written assessment task and rubric based on the Quality Teaching Framework).

 
  • Demonstrate the solar system.
  • Interpret observations and data recorded of night sky, times of sunset and sunrise, the lunar cycle.
  • Blog entries.
  • Wiki pages.
  • Presentation to class of wiki and why they chose their question to investigate - what it means to them (their interpretation).
  • Answer question: What would your next step of investigation/exploration have been?
