Resident Classification Detail
General Phase Info
- Each phase will have a formal review of previous phase goals with the Resident Advisor (RA) before moving on to next phase
Freshman Phase months 1-3
During the first three months residents will address their immediate needs by concentrating on understanding and incorporating the four pillars, attending EPC activities, finding work, discovering their program of recovery, and creating healthy and supportive friendships, both within and beyond the EPC community.
Phase Requirements:
- Meet with RA weekly
- Establish weekly goals with Resident Advisor (RA) - weekly goals are short term, simple, practical, build towards long term goals, and do not require much preparation. At the first weekly meeting the RA will help to fill out the weekly goal sheet and after that the resident will come to the weekly meetings with both their previous week and coming weeks weekly goal sheet filled out.
- Establish Monthly Pillar and finance goals with RA at the start of the phase and monthly thereafter- Phase goals require a little planning and work to accomplish. They are to be completed within or by the end of each month during the freshman phase.
- One overnight pass/month, which is not a late leave request
- Phase 1 goal review prior to moving on to next phase
Sophomore Phase months 3-6
At three months residents should be pretty well established. They will move from weekly to bi-weekly meetings with the Resident Advisor and develop long term goals.
Phase Requirements:
- Meet with RA every two weeks (bi-weekly)
- Establish bi-weekly goals w/ RA that may be realistically accomplished within 2 weeks and build towards a longer term goal.The first bi- weekly meeting the RA will help to fill out the bi-weekly goal sheet and after that the resident will come to the meetings with both their previous and coming bi-weekly goal sheet filled out.
- Establish quarterly pillar and finance goals set with the RA at the start of the phase-longer term goals to be accomplished during and by the end of this phase
- 2 overnight passes/month
- Comprehensive phase 1 and 2 goal review prior to moving on to next phase
Junior Phase months 6-9
After six months residents move into leadership roles. They will meet with the Resident Advisor to determine which leadership role they will begin with and rotate into a new position every two months. As a resident role model they will be mentors and buddies to new residents.
Phase Requirements:
- Meet with RA monthly
- Establish quarterly pillar and finance goals set with the RA at the start of the phase-longer term goals to be accomplished during and by the end of this phase
- Leadership roles assumed and rotated every 2 months (see Leadership Roles form)
- 3 overnight passes/month
- Comprehensive phase 1, 2, and 3 goal review prior to moving on to next phase
Senior Phase months 9-12
In month nine the residents will revisit their long term goals and start planning their transition. A Resident may submit an application for extension if they feel they cannot successfully transition into independent living. If a resident wishes to stay past 12 months he or she will have to show that they are making significant progress and that an extra three months will aid his or her recovery or the achievement of a particular set of goals.
Phase Requirements:- Meet with RA monthly
- Establish quarterly pillar and finance goals set with the RA at the start of the phase after reviewing all previous goals
- Leadership roles continued
- Decide if they are ready to transition, need an extension, or want to stay on as Graduate Resident
- Transition planning with Operations Director throughout the phase monthly check-in with OpDir
- Senior EPU Project
- EPC Related project chosen by resident and approved by RA
- start defining near end of phase 3 and complete by end of phase 4
- 4 overnight passes
Graduate Resident
EPC will allow for up to four graduate residents to live on site for up to two years. Graduate residents must be positive leaders and pillars of the community. If a resident wishes to stay for up to two years they must write a proposal explaining why they should be considered for the graduate resident position.
- Will occupy the four, ex-St. Josephs offices
- Max of 4 Graduate Residents living on campus at any given time
- Subject to random drug testing
- Mentor to residents 1 hour/week
- No chore, logbook, sign-in-board
- May have in-room visitors, but no overnight visitors in consideration of fellow graduate resident privacy; visitor hours are the same as undergraduate resident curfew hours
- Any number of overnights (off-campus) with email or phone notification to RA so staff may be aware the resident is not on campus for the night(s)
- May have an in-room TV and elect to share a cable TV bill
- Wired internet access for each room
- Staff is entitled to intervene if isolation becomes a problem - RA will assign re-integration tasks designed by and for the Graduate Resident
- Required to attend every CC mtg to stay connected w/ community. Has option to request exceptions through RA; will leave the mtg when the CC Chair makes it resident-only, like when staff leaves
