After reading April Morning and viewing The Patriot, compare and contrast the characters of Adam Cooper and Gabriel Martin (played by Heath Ledger).  What kind of relationship does each boy have with his father? What kind of relationship do they have with their girlfriends? How does each boy view their duty during the war? Which boy matures the  most?
