Instructions for viewing Historical Commitments of Traders Reports
Right mouse button click on the historical file of interest. In the pop-up menu that displays, click on “Save Target As…”.
A very short lived File Download dialogue box will appear followed immediately by a Save As dialogue box. Click on the Save button to save the compressed file to your local C drive. (In this example, I am saving the file to a folder called “COT” on my C drive.)
Go to your C drive and double-click on the file you just saved. A Winzip dialogue box will appear with the file listed.
To view the full text file immediately, double-click on the file name in the WinZip dialogue box. The full file will display.
You can save the full text file to your local drive by clicking on File è Save As from the menu.
This comma delimited text file can be opened in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Open up Excel, click on File è Open, and locate your file making sure that Files of type: All Files (*.*) is selected.
Click on Open and a Text Import Wizard dialogue box appears. Click on the Delimited option and click the Next button.
On the next dialogue box that appears, deselect Tab and select Comma. Click on the Finish button. (The third Wizard step is not needed.)
You now see the file in Excel format. This file can also be saved to you local drive.
