Treasurer’s Report
UB-ALA has $591.69.
That is twenty more dollars we have earned since the last meeting. This was due to tote bag sales.
New Business
The Linda Yalem run was a success. All the library students who participated finished in less than an hour.
All UB-ALA members who attended tonight’s evening voted on whether or not to have food funded by UB-ALA at every meeting.
The vote came to a compromise of UB-ALA funding some type of snack food at every other meeting.
The book drive for the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center is going well. People have been donating books generously. We are storing the boxes that are full in the cataloging room in Baldy 14 A (the PC lab).
Jessica Casamassa is going to be visiting the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center on Monday afternoon. If anyone is interested in going with her for a visit and to see what the facility is like on Monday or any other day, please email her and set up a date and time to go with her.
Her email is jessicacasamassa at yahoo dot com
Jessica also has the paperwork for a Scholastic grant. Obviously Scholastic Inc. is the company providing the grant. They provide books to people that meet their grant criteria. However, we need someone interested in volunteering to write a grant to get involved. If anyone is interested in writing the grant proposal email Jessica at the address above and set up a schedule to work with her.
NYLA Carpooling-if anyone needs to carpool to the conference please email Sarah Crevelling at sarahcrev at gmail dot com, Elaine Dean at ehdean at buffalo dot edu, Charlie Kelley at photodarling at aol dot com, to set up schedules and times.
UB-ALA is having a Halloween themed bake sale on October 29,2009 from 9 a.m.-5p.m. in the Baldy Lobby.
All baked goods are welcomed. Please wrap each treat or plate of treats individually. Wrap them, as you would want them to sell. For instance, maybe two brownies to a bag. Each wrapped baked good is sold for $1.00.
UB-ALA will place a box for the baked goods in the cataloging room in the PC lab (Baldy 14 A), the day before the bake sale. You can drop the baked goods off there or bring them to us Thursday morning in the Baldy lobby.
Other Announcements and Business
There is a need for student members to participate in the Academic Programs Committee and for the Admissions and Academic Standards Committee.
These committees are made up of faculty and students. The members report their findings (issues/concerns/upcoming events) to the LIS council. This membership is on a needs basis. If the committee needs to meet they will call you and arrange a time for a meeting.
If you are interested in becoming a member in either of these committees please contact Professor George D’Elia at delia at acsu dot buffalo dot edu,
(chair of the Academic Programs Committee), or Dr. Peterson at lpeterso at buffalo dot edu, (chair of the Admissions and Academic Standards).
There is also a need for one student member to become a member of the Graduate School grievance pool. The appointment would end May 2010. The student member could expect to serve on one or two grievance committees.
This committee meets when someone has an issue with the faculty or department. This committee also runs on a needs basis. Contact Dr. Soergel if you are interested at dsoergel at buffalo dot edu.
