Report on the Children’s Psychiatric Center
Jessica Casamassa helped to create a library for the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center. The center is in West Seneca, NY.
The children of the center are between the ages of 4-18. They have psychological and other disabilities. They are there from any range of days between 9-180. Even though Jessica helped to create a library, the center doesn’t have a lot of books. They also lack money funds to buy new books.
Jessica brought a wish list to the meeting tonight to share with us all.
UB-ALA has decided to put a donation box in the student lounge. The box should be there by next Tuesday the 29th if anyone is interested in giving books to the center. The box will be there for the whole semester.
Jessica said that the teen readers are the most avid readers.
She also mentioned that the younger children love non-fiction books.
Another important note on this subject is that the children/young adults aren’t allowed to have certain reading materials. Such as, no suicide or eating disorder books. Also, paperbacks are better than hardcover because some of the children are not allowed to use hardcover books.
In saying all that, donations are welcome and appreciated!
If you have any further questions please email Jessica Casamassa via ubstudentala at gmail.com
