UB Student ALA Meeting Minutes

 

The first UB-ALA meeting of the semester was called to order on:

 

September, 8, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.

 

 

UB-ALA Student Officers for the Fall of 2009 are:

 

President-Sarah Crevelling

 

Vice President- Charlie Kelly

 

Treasurer- Elaine Dean

 

Secretary-Sara Sinden

 

 

 

Treasurer’s Report

 

UB-ALA currently has $485.37.

 

We have made $120.00 from tote bag sales.

 

There are a lot of tote bags left.

 

If you are interested in buying one email Elaine at ehdean@buffalo.edu

 

Also, there are two UB-ALA “Get Shelved” T-Shirts left.  If you are interested in one of those email Elaine at the same address posted above.

 

T-Shirts and Tote Bags are $10.00 each.

 

 

New Business

 

If you are interested in becoming a member of ALA the membership is now available online at www.ala.org

 

The membership link is to the left on the homepage.  Be sure to apply as a student to get your discount.

 

 

Linda Yalem Safety Run-Sunday September 27th 9:30 a.m. Alumni Arena

If you are interested in running or walking the 5k registration is at

The fee is $15.00 for students. For faculty and anyone not a student the prices vary. 

 

All ALA officers plus some ALA members are participating, please come run/walk with us!

 

It supports rape and violence prevention education!

 

Tuesday September 15, 2009 is the last eligible day to apply to LIS-GSA for funding for the NYLA Conference.  You could be awarded $100.  Go to www.lisgsa.org to fill out funding form and submit it. 

 

The NYLA Conference is from October 14-17th and takes place this year at Niagara Falls, NY.  Time is running out for discounted registration so hurry and sign up today!  Volunteers get reduced admission.  Register right on the home page of www.nyla.org 

 

September 30, 2009 is the deadline for the Dewey Scholarship you can receive 1,000 dollars per academic year.  You can apply for the scholarship at www.nyla.org

 

 

October 1, 2009 is the deadline to apply for graduation if you are graduating in December.

 

This Saturday September 12, 2009 Vice-President Charlie Kelly is having a picnic at her house.  All library students/faculty are welcome! There will be games and food (there will be vegetarian food provided), and it goes from 2:30 p.m. -8:30p.m. Please RSVP for this event by emailing Charlie at photodarling@aol.com   Charlie will email you directions if needed.

 

UB-ALA will be having a bake sale on Thursday October 29th 9-4 p.m. in Baldy Hall. More details to come later.

 

Wine and Cheese night is TBA

 

Professor Battleson sent out an email regarding the Grant Street Community Center and needing 1-2 students for special projects dealing with the community center. The project includes building up a YA space for young adults, and also organizing, weeding, and cataloguing what has been collected so far for this space.  If you are interested the deadline for the special project (LIS 527) is this Friday September 11, 2009. Please contact Brenda Battleson at blb@buffalo.edu  Volunteers are also welcome!
