Titans
General Manager to Take On New Challenges!
At last month
Board Meeting, Ms. Deanna Barry, our Club General Manager, announced her intentions
to step down as GM, at a date to be determined in order to ensure a smooth
transition, so that she can pursue new and challenging endeavours. Ms. Barry
has agreed however to keep "the door open" to consider maintaining
some of the responsibilities she handled prior to her nomination as the Club GM
two years ago. This would allow the Board to minimize the impact on Club
operations, and assign, on an interim basis, a manager for its competitive
program.
Deanna's
contribution to the Club's successes has been tremendous and vital to our
growth, and words alone cannot express our gratitude towards her ongoing
commitment and professionalism. While her decision to leave her position
comes as a shock to many, we also recognize that a person of her calibre needs
to undertake new challenges. It is therefore with much regret that we
wish her the best in her new undertakings, and that we, as a Club, need to
address the new way forward.
Over the course of the next week, the
Board will therefore seek applications for the position of a Competitive
Program Manager for the remaining part of the 2008-2009 competitive season (23
Feb – 28 August 2009). A job opportunity will be advertized on our
website, and in the water polo community at large.
Please join me in wishing Ms. Barry the
best in her new endeavours!

great job too. Special thanks to Paul Hebert for organizing the minor officials and
putting in long hours to train volunteers and ensure the games ran
smoothly; to Brian Millar for helping out on deck and in the
hospitality suite throughout the weekend; to Linda Shaw for organizing
and running the hospitality suite; to Rhonda Ricketts for supporting
Linda in the hospitality suite; to Wendy Branson for helping out on
deck; to Nancy Frazer and her daughter Laura for producing the
tournament program; to Sue Sidebottom for helping with the Polo

Former Ottawa Titans Water Polo Athlete named 2008 All American Athlete
Submitted by Rennie Marcoux
The Ottawa Titans Water Polo Association is proud to note that a former Titans, Alex Moggridge, was named All American Athlete by the US Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) for the 2008 season.
Alex graduated from the Titans in 2006/07
and is now a business major at Mercyhurst College in Erie,
Pennsylvania. An attacker with the Mercyhurst Lakers men's water polo
team, Alex was recognized for his outstanding contribution to the team
with a season highlight of 23 games played, 51 steals, 63 goals (a
school record) and 93 points (another school record), finishing the
season with an average of 2.74 goals per game. Alex ranks 6th overall
in the CWPA in goals per game and 18th overall in total goals scored.
Alex, along with two other teammates from the Mercyhurst Lakers, was
one the 18 athletes selected to the 2008 All-America Teams. Their
coach was also named Coach of the Year.
This
recognition represents the highest award presented to a US collegiate
player for his or her performance. Nominees for the club All-America
team are nominated by their coaches near the end of the season and
voted upon by all the collegiate club coaches in the US.
Alex will be returning to Ottawa to play with some of his former Titans
teammates in the March 19-22 national championships for U22, to be held
at Carleton University (more details will be announced at titanswaterpolo.ca in the near future).
On behalf of the Titans family, we would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Alex for his achievements.
