National Capital Water Polo League Completes Their Season
Submitted by Jerry Tesanovic

This year we witnessed a very successful launch of the National Capital Water Polo League (NCWPL), which came to a conclusion last week at Nepean Sportsplex.

Two of the Titans teams came out with medals after hard fought games.

Our first League winner is the University Of Ottawa Gee Gees team, winning the gold medal after a nail biting game which ended in regular time with a 6:6 tie, and went to a shootout for a 10:9 win over the Titans Manta Rays (league leader in regular season).

The Bronze medal game was decided between two Titans teams: Tiger Sharks and Senior Titans team. The winner was our cadet Tiger Sharks, in another close game 6:5. This was a second medal for the Tiger Sharks in less than 5 days, as they returned from a trip to 16U Provincials just a few days before.

All Stars:

-    Most Valuable Player: Boris Misljencevic (Manta Rays)

-    Most Valuable Goalie: Robert Sutherland (Gee Gees)

-    Most Valuable Coach: Luc Rancourt(Gee Gees)

Other members of All Star team:

-    David Lapins (Hull)

-    Max Hebert (Tiger Sharks)

-    Corbin Tremblay (Manta Rays)

-    Ben Somers (Gee Gees)

-    Tristan Tremblay (Gee Gees)

A few statistics to illustrate the size of this new league:

-    5 teams from 3 different clubs

-    84 players

-    Total of 44 league games

-    18 games per team (including play-offs).

I would like to use this opportunity to extend my big thanks to all volunteers who ensured that our first season went so smoothly.

Among the others I would like to mention : Coordinator - Jo Paterson; Treasurer - Deanna Barry; Webmaster – Tristan Tremblay; Chief Referee - Todd Bealor;

Thanks to Club President JP Caron and Competitive Director Paul Massel for presenting medals and all star-awards after the final games, as well as to our league sponsor, Rancourt Roofing.

Special note: on behalf of Titans Water Polo, extra thanks to Titans coach Jerry Tesanovic for taking the initiative to launch this league. Jerry saw a need and took the steps submit a plan to make it happen. We thank him for a successful season!
