MEETING MINUTES

Thursday, September 10, 2009

 

 

Green Ridge Village, Newville -7:30pm

 

Attendance: Keith Clinton, Bill Franz, Todd Hurd, Linda Watson, Vern Gauthier, Joe Dubiel, Bob Miller,  and Kim Falvey (Cumberland County Conservation Service).

 

Meeting call to order: Keith Clinton called the meeting to order.

 

Minutes Approval: Motion to approve the minutes was carried.

 

Treasure’s Report:  No Treasurer’s report (Mark Spicka is out of the country).

Secretary’s Report: No Secretary’s report (Bill Ferris is out of town).    

 

Barrel Factory Update: Bob Davidson has completed the porch roof.

Workday for the land surrounding the Barrel Factory: Set for October 31

Big Spring Heritage Day: BSWA may open the Barrel factory on for this event on October 10. Linda will get back to the group with times and name of BSWA member(s) involved. The group also discussed possible inclusion of the Barrel Factory on part of a Historical Homes Tour sponsored by Newville Historical Society (Jen Mowery contact).

 

Clean up day October 17: Linda noted that this event is all arranged and announced on websites of North Newton and West Pennsboro townships.

 

GGII Grant Big Spring Habitat Enhancement Update: Keith noted the deadline of September 25 given to Rivers Unlimited for permit application to PA DEP and the Army Corp., with work then potentially starting in the spring.

 

Winter Watershed Meeting: Franklin and Cumberland County watershed organizations will hold a joint meeting on December 7th at 6 pm, Shippensburg University (location TBA).

 

Birding along Big Spring: Next birding event is the 1st Saturday of the month at 7:00 a.m. Bill Franz reported 50 species on most recent event, including a red necked phalarope (shorebird).

 

USGS Water Gauge Watch: Bill Franz- discharge is presently at the 4 year average of 30 cfs (cubic feet per second).

 

Annual Meeting: To be held November 12, 2009, with potential speaker arranged through Tom Smithwick.

 

Old Business

BSWA hats are available for sale, thanks to Bill Ferris. Five were sold immediately to Keith Clinton, Bill Franz Linda Watson, Joe Dubiel, and Todd Hurd.
