Meeting Minutes 7/22/09
Attendance- Officers: Chris Good, Kimberly Conlon, Devin Hamlar, Andrew Crafton, Tony Meyers, Phil Goerdt, Anthony Truong; Advisor: Madhu Bhat
Topics of Discussion-
Review of Target Meeting:
- Target meeting went EXTREMELY well; Target reps were surprised with how prepared/organized we were
- ESO was not aware of grants made available by Target for registered student groups
- Tony emailed the three representatives to say thank you and follow-up about grants
- Anthony said there is a job shadow position available within the stores branch; Jilian would be the contact if interested in this
- Presentation for the kick-off will be approximately 45 minutes with more interaction than lecture
Fall Kick-Off:
- Target sounded as if they wanted to include a game within their presentation
- ESO will still plan a game if Target doesn’t have a game
- To create teams, we will number the paper plates to form groups
- No moderator for the Q & A session
- 4-6 speakers will attend, which will increase prices for parking & honorariums; we will decrease the honorariums to approximately $15 each
- Resumes will not be accepted at the event; ESO will say that Target will accept resumes at the career fair
Newsletter:
- Phil will create a draft of the newsletter including info about the kick-off, tutoring, meetings
- “Planning Meetings” will be called “Meetings” in an effort to draw more student interest
Pens:
- Chris brought samples including a white barrel pen w/ black trim and a solid green pen
- We decided to stay with the original pen design
- A new shirt design will be created during the spring 2010 semester to get members involved
Economics in Action:
- Chris will email Dr. Sahi about the Economics in Action lectures
- ESO feels that the lectures need to be at different times and advertised better for improved attendance
- Instructors for undergraduate classes could also offer extra credit to attend the lectures
Brochures:
- Chris and Kim will finalize the content tonight
Paper Competition:
- Tony emailed Dr. Sahi about the paper competition idea
- Anthony has previous experience with paper competitions and will post info about a competition he participated in
- Font: 12 pt Times New Roman
- Papers will be submitted electronically to check the above requirement
- Topics will be open; either based on a paper from a class or a topic you want to write about
- For the next meeting, we will collaborate with formats from other paper competitions
Post Kick-Off Events:
- A possible alumni panel in the fall and spring semesters
- Outline for fall semester could be: 3 events in September, October, November
- Two companies and an alumni panel
- Possibilities for the second company for fall 2009 are Thrivent Financial, Best Buy, OnTrack
