(Workshop fee includes transportation, and breakfast, lunch, and snacks both days)
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
This
hands-on workshop is geared toward teachers who have little or no
experience working with Garage Band and will be ideal for elementary
classroom teachers and music specialists. We will highlight classroom
projects and upon completion you will walk away with the skills and
knowledge necessary to integrate Garage Band with your class.
Garage
Band is a powerful and user-friendly software program that allows you
to create soundtracks, accompaniments, podcasts, and much more. During
this course you will learn how to

Create musical projects (even if you don’t play an instrument),
-
Involve and inspire your students creativity,

Create podcasts,
-
Add effects,
-
How to export and share your projects.
PRESENTERS:
Kim Cofino is the ES Technology Coach and MS Technology and Learning Coordinator at the International School
Bangkok. Prior to arriving at ISB, Kim was the Middle School Technology
Facilitator at Mont'Kiara International School in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia for two years and the Middle School Academic IT Coordiator at
Munich International School in Germany for 5 years. In all three
international schools, Kim has worked with classroom teachers to
effectively embed the authentic use of technology into the classroom
curriculum. Her recent work has focused on developing internationally collaborative
projects that authentically engage students from all around the world,
helping them become effective 21st century learners, collaborators and
creators. Kim reflects on her experiences on her professional blog: Always Learning.
Vince
Bullen is beginning his third year as an ES music teacher at The
International School Bangkok. Prior to arriving at ISB, Vince taught
music for 13 years in Washington state, 3 years in Venezuela, and 3
years in Myanmar. Vince has also worked for The State Department as
part of the AERO (American Education Reaches Out) Project and is a
Christa McAuliffe Award recipient for excellence in education.

You
will receive confirmation from the ISB curriculum office if space is
available. If space is not available, we will contact you as well.
If
you are traveling to ISB for the workshop, please do not make travel
arrangements until your space is confirmed. Upon confirmation, you
will receive detailed directions to the school.
COSTS-REGISTRATIONEARCOS
registration fee: US $50.00 or Baht 1,700 payable on September 27. If
your school is a non-EARCOS member, there is an additional $100.00 fee.
Please
do not send money to ISB but bring it to registration. Registration
and credit checks should be made to International School Bangkok. For
ISB teachers, PD forms will also be available at the workshop.

If you desire airport pickup, please request it when you make your reservation
TRANSPORTATIONISB
will provide transportation from the hotel to the workshop and back. A
Montri bus or van will be at the hotel entrance at 7:30 am on Saturday
and Sunday morning. The bus will return people to the hotel after the
workshop completion. Please indicate if you would like ISB pickup at
the Landmark Hotel. Upon arrival at ISB, please go directly to the ES
Learning Hub.

10:00-11:00: (Kim) Recording and editing voices to create podcasts
11:00-12:00: (Kim) Adding images and sounds to create multimedia podcasts
12:00-1:00: Lunch
1:00-3:00:
(Vince & Kim) The class will create a collaborative musical project
where teachers can apply the knowledge and skills learned in earlier
sessions
Sunday 9:00-11:30: (Vince and Kim) Teachers will create individual projects while Vince and Kim assist where needed
11:30-12:30: Lunch
12:30-2:00:
(Vince and Kim) Teachers will share their projects with the class and
Vince will show students how to send finished projects to !Tunes
RESOURCES NEEDED- Please
bring your own Apple laptop. If you are coming from outside ISB you may
not be able to connect to our wireless internet, but we will have
desktop computers available.
- We would like to make this
workshop as practical as possible, so please feel free to bring lesson
plans or student work you would like to work on or share.
