The Gallery Covenant

WORSHIP TEAM / WORSHIP CHOIR POLICY AND PROCEDURE

Worship Teams are an exciting and integral part of the ministry of The Gallery Covenant.  My goal  is to make this a very open-ended ministry that would allow new people to join on a regular basis.  It is only realistic that different people have different levels of musical ability.  It is also a reality that different musical situations require higher levels of musical ability.  Musical ability or the lack of it, does not make a person more or less worthwhile or valuable.  It is a tool.  It is also a skill and discipline to be worked hard at.  And for some, it is an obvious gift.  But no matter how great a person’s musical skill is, if that person is proud, self-centered and in it for themselves, it is spiritually useless.  It, in fact, is actually detrimental to ministry.  I will make efforts not to use people that I perceive to have a focus like that.  I try hard to foster and promote a proper spiritual focus among all of our musicians.  The heart of a person is what matters most.  But, on the other hand, a person with a great heart but little musical ability will also be limited in how I use them.  A person needs to have significant skill to sing a solo or be in front of a microphone.  This is the same as it is for a person with a great heart for God who is a poor public speaker.  He will not be the preacher in a church or a guest speaker on a speaking circuit.  That’s just reality.  That doesn’t make him less valuable, that’s just real, maybe he needs to be involved in another ministry or maybe he needs to work hard at developing that skill.  In music, some people are talented enough to be effective soloists.  Others aren’t soloists but can sing in a small group.  Others couldn’t do those things but could blend in with a choir.  And still others just sing in the congregation.

VOCALISTS /Instrumentalist:  Our policy is to ask anyone who wants to be a part of the worship teams to read this policy, fill out the questionnaire and send it in.

WORSHIP CHOIR:  Is made up of any vocalist who meets those qualifications on the Worship Team Questionnaire. This group will also be expanded to include 9 - 12 graders.  This makes room for those who may not be musically strong enough to sing a part well or stay on pitch or blend with their own microphone, but are able to do fine as part of a choir to still be used in worship leading.  This is also a great place to gain experience and develop and grow as vocalists. We will attempt to scheduling 15 vocalists a weekend as a part of the choir for both services on the weekends.  We plan to use this choir every weekend but will not schedule vocalists for more than one weekend unless they want to be scheduled. Anyone--whether in the worship choir or worship team--is invited to come up and join the choir on a weekend that they’re not scheduled.  They’re welcome to join the choir for just the service that they attend or for all.

THE WORSHIP TEAM VOCALISTS are those vocalists who stand in the front of the stage with their own microphone.  We will be scheduling up to 6 of these vocalists each weekend to lead from the mic’s along with the choir.  Out of the All Worship Team Choir, we will welcome anyone to audition to become a part of the Worship Team Vocalists.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL MEMBERS:

SPIRITUAL:

1.First of all, you need to be a reborn Christian.  By that I mean, someone who has made a conscious choice to turn from their sin, ask for God’s forgiveness, put their faith Jesus and follow Him as their Lord.  It’s also very important that you are not living a lifestyle of rebellion to God.  In other words, you are not actively engaging in sinful activities that the Bible clearly opposes.  I do not mean that you have to be sinless.  I sin.  It’s more about an attitude of submission to God and actively pursuing Him and asking for forgiveness when we sin.  This is an area I have to trust you on, I will only respond to what I know.  But I do reserve the right to ask you to come off of the worship team--at least for a time--if I feel that you are in a bad place in your spiritual walk.

2.Christianity 101:  Everyone in the worship team must complete or plan on completing Christianity 101.  This is not an immediate necessity for the Worship Choir.

3.Fulfill our prayer requirement by attending prayer meetings on Thursday Night or Sunday mornings during one of the services.

4.Complete the assigned readings in the times given.

5.Get plugged into a small group approved by the church.

MUSICAL PREPARATION:

Yet to be determined

MEETING TOGETHER:

Once a month, we have a Worship Team Meeting.   All members of all the teams are required to be at these meetings unless they call us at the office and let us know that they can’t be there.  If two unexcused meetings in a row are missed, we will send you a note, telling you that you are off the team and asking if you would like to stay on or not with a renewed commitment.  The purpose of these meetings is to build a sense of team, to allow the Worship Department staff to communicate important vision and department issues, to get feedback from the group, to break up into small groups and pray and to spend time worshiping together.  We also occasionally work on a song together to use at a weekend service.

CANCELLATION RESPONSIBILITY:

If you are scheduled on a given weekend as a team vocalist or instrumentalist and can’t make the date, it is your responsibility to call our admin right away.  He will then find a replacement for you.  If you are scheduled in the worship choir, we will send you a list of the vocalists, and you will be required to find your own replacement.  If you can’t find a replacement, you will need to call our admin and let him know.
