UNIVERSITY-WIDE COMMITTEE APPOINTMENT PROCESS


Student appointments to the University-wide and Provost's committees on campus are initiated by the Student Senate and the Graduate and Professional Student Senate. These nominations are then sent through the Office of the Vice President and then on to the Office of the Provost for ultimate assignment. Students must make their nominations by March 1 to serve for the following academic year.

University-wide Committee Descriptions


Graduate and Professional Studies Committee (GPSC)
The Graduate and Professional Studies Committee (GPSC) reviews and recommends all new and revised degree programs, university graduate certificate programs, continuing education programs, curricula, sites, and courses on the post-baccalaureate level. It also reviews and recommends graduate curricular policies and provides final advice to the president on curricular proposals for inclusion in the University Catalogue. 

Honorary Degrees Committee (HDC)
Annually, the Honorary Degrees Committee (HDC) recommends a slate of 14 nominees of outstanding distinction and accomplishment for honorary degrees. 

International Affairs Committee (IAC)
The International Affairs Committee (IAC) recommends policy and procedure to promote the internationalization initiative of the Strategic Plan. Specific items of concern include: international teaching and research at USC, institutional relationships between USC and universities abroad, USC's overseas offices, international students and visiting scholars, international alumni, and the exchange of information on campus concerning all these matters.

University Convocations Committee (UCONVO)
The University Convocations Committee (UCONVO) advises the president and the university marshal on broad policy matters related to the form and content of Commencement, Academic Honors Convocation, and any other all-university academic convocations. 



Provost's Committees


Advisory Committee on National and International Graduate Fellowships (NIGF) 
The Committee (NIGF) charge is to advise the University Fellowship coordinator, to assist the fellowship coordinator in identifying potential fellowship winners, to seek ways better to alert faculty and staff to fellowship opportunities, and to provide members for university fellowships screening committees. 

Galleries Advisory Committee (GAC)
The Galleries Advisory Committee advises the provost on policy initiatives proposed by the director of the Fisher Gallery on matters relevant to the enhancement of the Gallery. These matters include focus, direction, developmental activities, and impact upon and interaction with the campus and Los Angeles communities.
