1. A strong lead that both informs the reader about the content of the article and is engaging
2. No bias
3. Have a clear explanation of the event or situation that any average person can understand
4. Plenty of quotes/ sources of important people involved with different opinions to make for a well-rounded article
5. Show why this piece of news is important to the larger community
