STAGE 2 – Determine Acceptable Evidence
'What evidence will determine understanding?'

Assessment Tasks: To Assess for Deep Understanding

Assessment for learning (ways you will gather students’ prior knowledge):

  • Students will be separated into groups of three. Each group is to come up with as many different ways that they can think of regarding how nature was used to survive in traditional Indigenous life. The class then comes together and each group is to announce to the class two ideas that their group came up with. This is then put on the interactive whiteboard and created into a mind map by the teacher which is then distributed to everyone at the next lesson.
In the same lesson, an open, informal class discussion will also occur about Indigenous culture in general. The aim of this is to assess students' prior knowledge, thoughts and any prejudices that may exist. Students will be asked what they would like to know about Indigenous culture and this would be noted to try and incorporate into the unit as much as possible.

Assessment as learning (throughout the study checking for misconceptions):

  • Group discussions on Wetpaint: as part of their assessment criteria for the unit of work, students will be expected to contribute to the discussions page on the Wetpaint wiki site on a regular basis, addressing issues that are discussed in class. It will be compulsory for all students to generate discussion, pose questions and reflect on their learning on that topic in a collaborative setting.

Assessment of  learning (at conclusion of inquiry):

  • Final Assessment Task:

  • Final Assessment Coding Sheet (in accordance with the Quality Teaching Framework):
