B) About EICA
Evergreen Indian Cultural Association (EICA), launched in 2007, is an initiative by a group of culturally motivated Indians in the San Jose Evergreen area who have come together to fulfill the mission of EICA. EICA is a registered unincorporated association and is a "not for profit association" planning towards an Incorporated and non-profit status soon. Our main aim is enrichment of the Evergreen Indian Community through various cultural programs and social activities.
Our mission is to bring Evergreen community together through cultural and social events that highlight our vibrant culture. In doing so, we want to support causes helping the community and bring awareness towards the resources within the community.
EICA also aims at integrating and collaborating with other community based organizations that serve the interests of the community.
C) “Going Green” Jhoom 2009 Essay Contest
Calling all talented writers among our budding young community…. Give us your thoughts (could be poetry or short essay) on the earth-friendly topic - GOING GREEN
- Contest open to kids from K through 12th Grade
- Group 1 – K to 3rd Grade
- Group 2 – 4th to 7th Grade
- Group 3 – 8th to 12th Grade
- Article should be an original piece of work reflecting the child’s age/grade
- No Entry Fee
- Deadline for submission – October 31st 2009
- Articles may be hand-written or typed out and should include the child’s name, age, grade, school, phone and email information
- Articles may be emailed to Radha Subrahmanyam at sanjose.eica@gmail.com (with subject JHOOM 2009 Essay Contest) or can be snail-mailed or hand-delivered (please send an email to know the mailing address)
- Qualified professionals will judge the articles to pick the top 3 winners from each group
- Winners will be awarded during the JHOOM event on November 14th 2009
- Selected articles will be read out all through the JHOOM event, and kids may be invited to read out their own articles on stage so attendance at JHOOM would give them extra recognition within our community (Ticket info for JHOOM is available on our web-site - www.sanjose-eica.org/JHOOM2009.htm)
D) “Going Green” Jhoom 2009 Fancy Dress Contest
- Announcing fancy dress contest at Jhoom 2009 with the theme “Going Green”
- Entry fee: Free
- Contest open to kids from 5yrs to 13yrs (including 5 & 13yrs)
- Time: Each kid will have up to 45seconds only to show case their costume and enact if they choose to.
- Prizes: 1st, 2nd & 3rd. (judges decision is final)
- To register - please email Srilatha Sekharipuram at : sanjose.eica@ gmail.com with the subject "Jhoom2009 Fancy Dress Registration"
- Deadline: A maximum of 25 participants can register. Please register soon to ensure participation. If <25 entries, then registration open till event day.
