- What level of detail do I want? big picture? main points? specific question?
- How much time I'm willing to commit to satisfy my purpose? 1 chapter? 1 hour?
- What is my ultimate application of this material?
- What value I'm looking to derive from this?
- Enter 'relaxed alertness' state of mind. Use tangerine method.
- Preview
- Effective learning works from whole to parts, from big picture to details
- Scan, survey, x-ray the book in 5 minutes, report in 3 minutes, article in 30 seconds.
- Understand structure, skeleton. Notice trigger words, key terms.
- Notice and stop urge to go to details, start previewing.
- Decide if you want to read ahead. Refine purpose.
- Photo-Reading
- Adjust vision for Photo-Focus state. Soften focus so that peripheral vision takes in whole page at a time.
- Mentally photograph each page with 1 second per page speed. Finish entire book in 3-5 minutes.
- Very little material will enter conscious awareness by the end of this step.

- Post view immediately after photo-reading (similar to preview), formulate questions as your read. Don't try to answer the questions yet. Notice key words, important terms, main headlines.
- Let it incubate for at least 15-20 minutes, over night if possible.
- Probe mind for questions again after incubation.
- Read read parts of the text, quickly glancing down the center of the page to the bottom (super read). Try to find answers to your earlier questions actively.
- Dip down to details where you like, let intuition be your guide.
- Try to follow author's train of thoughts.

- Closest to conventional reading.
- Glide eyes rapidly over text, adjust speed as needed, flexibility in spread as required.
- Try to comprehend but not all in one shot.
