September enews

Labor Day, September 7, 10am to 6pm. The Chalk it Up Festival features a crafts fair, live music, and of course artists drawing on the sidewalk. Come see the Peace Corps square! It's at Fremont Park, 15th and P Streets in Sacramento.

Friday, September 18, 7 pm. Adventures in Dining this month is at the Queen of Sheba Ethiopian restaurant, 1704 Broadway. We've been here before and always had a great time. Please contact Mark Stivers at markstivers@gmail.com or 916-215-9921 to reserve your space.

Saturday, September 19, 9am to noon. The American River Clean-up is at the Howe Avenue river access. Parking is free, and the group provides rubber gloves. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and good shoes (not sandals!). If you have a kayak or rowboat, bring it and you can pick trash out of the water.

Saturday, September 19, 3pm to 7:30pm. The Annual Meeting is at the College Green Swim and Racquet Club, 2707 Notre Dame Drive, Sacramento 95826. Please bring something to grill and a dish to share, preferably from your country of service. We'll provide drinks, paper goods, and a grill. There will be swimming, tennis, volleyball, and ping pong. At 6:30 our special guest Shadieh Mirmobiny will talk about the recent elections and situation in Iran. Mirmobiny and her husband, Hossein, publish the Persian Cultural Review for the Iranian American community in Northern California.

At the annual meeting we will also vote for the new board.

One more thing: we are collecting children's books for a library in Lesotho. If you have any children's books to give away, please bring them to the annual meeting. We are looking for baby or children's books up to a 5th grade reading level, and any encyclopedias, dictionaries, or atlases published after 1995.
