About the Healer Programme
Requirements to Get In:
- N.E.W.T.s in Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, Potions, and Transfiguration; nothing below "Exceeds Expectations."
- Only 10 people are accepted into the Healer Programme per year. Applications are due by December 31, including letters of recommendation from two non-related adults. Character and aptitude tests, as well as interviews, are done in the first two weeks of July. Acceptances are sent out in the last week of July.
- Training begins the first week of September.
- One year of basic, general training: first aid, spells, potions, and techniques, as well as legal procedures. Trainees are evaluated twice: once at the six-month mark (at the end of February), and once at the year mark (at the end of August). Failure to pass the one-year evaluation results in a repeat of the entire year. Failure to pass a second time results in removal from the programme.
- After completion of the one year of basic training, trainees are divided into pairs and assigned to one of the five floors, where they are under the instruction of the Healer-in-Charge of that floor. The trainees spend four months on each floor, rotating one floor up every cycle (the fourth floor cycles down to the ground floor).
- After the twenty months of rotation, the trainee healers are permited to choose (or be assigned) a specialty. A further one year is spent in their specialty.
- Once they have completed the year of specialty, it is the Healer-in-Charge of that floor who has the final say as to whether the trainee becomes a full Healer, repeats part or all of the specialty year, is assigned a different specialty (which would include having to do another full year for that specialty), or is removed from the programme.
- If they want to have a further specialty within their floor, that is an additional year of training in the particular ward.
Miscellaneous Info:
- Trainee salary: starts at 1000 galleons / month
- Full Healer salary: starts at 2000 galleons / month
