Quick Write Journals

A journal will be used in this class to record our thoughts which may be sparked by personal, group, or class analysis. Your journal must be a composition notebook (9 ¾ x 7 ½ ) with white lined paper inside. Composition notebooks can typically be purchased easily at a dollar store for…you guessed it…a dollar.

Journal Guidelines (follow these guidelines or risk losing credit for your journal):

* Write your name, class, and period on the front of the composition notebook and bring it to class everyday. Use this journal only for English work. Store your journal in the inside pocket of your three ring binder.

* Each journal entry must have the topic written on the top along with your class period and date.

* Print clearly.

* Journal prompts and additional guidelines will be given as our study of literature progresses. Please follow all directions.

* Journal evaluations will be announced and conducted at least once per marking period. Keep up with your journal.

Journal Value:

Each journal entry will be valued at approximately five to fifteen points, give or take. The overall value of the journal per marking period will be determined by how many entries are given during the marking period.

IMPORTANT: Know that I am reading this journal and I expect you will answer each prompt with relevancy and personal insight. Sometimes I will ask how the literature we are reading relates to your own life. As a result I must warn you of the following: if you communicate to me that someone you know is being hurt, that you are being hurt or that you want to hurt someone or yourself, I am required by law to report this information. I encourage you to use the journal as a means to communicate to me, or as a means to record your own thoughts on life. This journal is a resource I have created for you and I invite you to use it whenever you have a need to record any thought at any time, regardless of the assignment.
