Mr. Stengel’s
Class Expectations
for 2006-2007
Expectation |
Please place a check in the box to the right after you read each expectation. |
Homework |
Regularly assigned homework will include reading assignments, questions for discussion, vocabulary exercises, grammar lessons, reading prompts, journals and essays. Homework may be issued three to five nights a week (yes, during weekends and vacations too). Homework should be treated like class notes and should be reviewed and studied for quizzes and exams. |
Class work |
All students are expected to bring a notebook, pen, pencil, books and assigned materials to class each day. You will be expected to take notes and keep them organized. Classroom notes provide information for quizzes and exams that may otherwise not appear in books or homework. |
Quizzes and Exams |
Quizzes may be announced or unannounced. Quizzes will evaluate content learned in class during previous days, or your understanding of a reading assignment, homework assignment, or other course work. Exams will vary in length, style, and content. Exams will always be announced ahead of time. Two to four exams may be given per semester. Exams will generally be worth 150-400 points. |
Projects |
At least one project may be assigned each grading period. While projects will be introduced in class, it is your responsibility to complete them on your own time. |
Participation |
You will be expected to contribute to class discussion and exercises based upon assigned readings and classroom topics. Participation will help your grade. Please participate in a manner that follows the adopted classroom rules. |
Attendance |
You must be here to benefit from this class. Much of what we learn in this class comes from peer interpretation and viewpoints. You are responsible for all work missed in the event of an absence. Any tests, quizzes or assignments given during an absence must be made up immediately following your return or you will receive a zero on the assignment. It is your responsibility to find out what you have missed and when you can make it up. Questions regarding missed classes, absences, make-up work, etc., should be asked before class begins or at the end of class. Avoid asking for make-up information in the middle of a lesson! Students late to class more than three times will be given a detention and an unexcused absence will be logged on his or her record. If you come to class after the bell rings you may be counted as tardy. Important Note: Know that major exams, papers and projects are often assigned near the end of a marking period. Failing to complete one of these assignments due to an absence could result in a passing grade dropping to a failing grade. |
Passes |
Bathroom passes will be distributed one at a time and only for emergency or medical reasons. Use passing times, study hall or lunch time to go to the bathroom. Locker passes will not be issued as requested by administration. |
Conferences |
You may ask to meet after school at any time—with or without parents, counselors and other student support personnel. |
Conduct |
Respect everyone. In our classroom, I expect you to respect yourselves and your peers, as well as me, instructional aids, visitors and substitutes. |
Policies |
All school policies will be enforced in this classroom. Please see your current 2006-2007 student handbook for more information. |
Grading |
You will receive points for every assignment you complete in this class. At the end of each marking period, your grade will be determined by dividing the total number of points gained into the number of points offered. Example: 110 earned /150 in assignments and assessments=.73333 or C. Pay attention to the point values of each assignment, as some will affect your grade more than others. By keeping track of your assignments you can work out your progress at any time. The following is a list of expectations designed to give you a focus for this class. A+ 97-100, A 93-96, A- 90-92, B+ 87-89, B 83-86, B- 80-82, C+ 77-79, C 73-76, C- 70-72, D+ 67-69, D 63-66, D- 60-62, F Below 60. |
