The Rebels think that they're so great, defying Abraham Lincolns order! Even though they seceded from us, they still have to listen to him. I can't believe that they aren't following what the Emancipation Proclamation declared! The Emancipation Proclamation is a wonderful document and nobody in the right mind would even dare think of defying it! Abraham Lincoln issued it on September 22, 1862 and it declared that all slaves in the Confederacy were emancipated. I suppose Lincoln was very brave to make such a courageous stand. It is really magnificent that he stood up for what he believed was right. In my opinion, the Emancipation Proclamation was the best thing that Lincoln ever did. There are three reasons why I believe that statement is true.

First of all, it stopped slavery in the South. I fully believe that slavery is cruel and that it was right to stop it. Many slave owners treat their slaves as property but they deserve to be treated as people. Everyday I see more and more people in chains, full of sorrow. They work so hard, I'm sure they can taste their own sweat. People should never be treated that way, even if they’re African-Americans! Furthermore, slaves were not necessary at all. I have no idea why the South needs slaves. Our factories don't require any slaves at all, so why would the Johnny Rebs require them?

Secondly, the Emancipation Proclamation allowed former slaves to join the Union army. I am extremely pleased with this order. The former slaves will definitely join us since the army would help enforce their freedom. Also, we would have more manpower and have a better chance of winning. I can already visualize me and the other Union Soldiers hearing the South surrender to us!

Lastly, the president declared that the Emancipation Proclamation was to unify the states. This is good because then we would be one united nation and the war would be over. In addition to that, slavery would probably be stopped because Lincoln would have power of the South as well as the North. This, I assume will please all abolitionists.

In conclusion, I, a soldier in the Union army, truly believe that Abraham Lincoln’s decision in issuing the Emancipation Proclamation was 100% correct. Not only does it free slaves and allow them to be part of the Union army, it also eventually will unite the South and the North.
