Finished measurements:
Purse body: 5.5” wide/4.5” height
Side Panel 1.5-2” wide
Strap: 17” long
Materials:
Bulky weight yarn (yarn used: 60% virgin wool/30% alpaca/10% acrylic) 100g ball/100m (110 yards)
Size 10 knitting needles (or size needed to obtain gauge)
Size H crochet hook
Coordinating Button & thread or thin yarn
Sewing needle
Yarn Needle
Gauge: 4” = 14st X 16rows
Pattern Notes: Pattern is worked in 4X2 rib. Both ends of the main body have crocheted edging.
Directions:
Main Body:
Cast on 20 stitches leaving a tail 24” long
RS rows: K 2 sts, (P 4 sts, K 2 sts) repeat () to end
WS rows: P 2 sts, (K 4 sts, P 2 sts) repeat () to end
Repeat rows for a total of 56 rows (about 15 inches). Bind off, leaving a loop at the end.
Edging:
Using crochet hook, pick up loop and crochet the following:
Ch 1, sc in each st across
Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across
Ch 2, turn, (skip one sc and dc 3 in next sc, ch 1, skip one sc, sc in next sc), ch 1, repeat ( ), sc, ch 5, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc, sc, ( ), sc (), bind off.
At other end of work, using crochet hook and the tail from cast-on, make a loop in the first stitch. Ch 1, sc in each stitch to end. Bind off.
Side Panels and Strap:
From row 16-20, knit 5 stitches into RS of work. Starting next row:
On WS: K1, P1, K1, P1, K1
On RS: P1, K1, P1, K1, P1
Continue for a total of 80 rows (26”)
Bind off, leaving extra yarn (~24”).
Finishing:
*Block fabric prior to sewing up sides.
Blocked measurements:
Body: 15.5” long by 5.5” wide
Side panels & strap: 26”
*Sew edge to opposite side of work (rows 16-20) using extra yarn.
*Continue using extra yarn and sew up sides, using another length of yarn for opposite side.
*Using thread, sew button onto front of purse approximately 2” from bottom when laid flat.
