Priorities - What You Need To Do and How To Do It 1-19-08

Shabbat Message of

1Ki 19:1-21

(1) And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

(2) Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the elohim do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.

(3) And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

(4) But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O YHWH, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

(5) And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.

(6) And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baked on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

(7) And the angel of YHWH came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

(8) And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of Elohim.

(9) And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of YHWH came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

(10) And he said, I have been very jealous for YHWH Elohim of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

(11) And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before YHWH. And, behold, YHWH passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before YHWH; but YHWH was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but YHWH was not in the earthquake:

(12) And after the earthquake a fire; but YHWH was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

(13) And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

(14) And he said, I have been very jealous for YHWH Elohim of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

(15) And YHWH said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

(16) And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

(17) And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

(18) Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

(19) So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

(20) And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?

(21) And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

Priorities - What You Need to Do & How to Do It !

"Didn't you know I must be about my Father's Business?"

(Minding YHWH's Own Business)

Luk 2:48-50 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

But How??????

EliYAH needed to set some priorities in his life!

  1. He was running on emotions, and forgot what his mission was...

He had just had a miraculous victory against the prophets of ba'al and in the final verse of 1 Ki 18:46 - And the hand of YHWH was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

How often the enemy attacks us immediately after we have a high point in our walk...

Mar 4:14-15 - The sower soweth the word. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

He knows that the hand of YHWH is with us...

But if we look at the circumstances we will focus on them and lose perspective of YHWH's power in our lives...

Eph 5:14-17 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Messiah shall give thee light. (15) See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, (16) Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. (17) Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of YHWH is.

  1. He was in fear, and running from Jezebel who had threatened to kill him...

When we look at the circumstances around us it will keep us in fear!

Mat 8:23-26 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him, (24) And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. (25) And his disciples came to him and awoke him, saying, Master, save us: we perish. (26) And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

Mat 14:28-31 And Peter answered him and said, Master, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. (29) And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to YHWSHUA. (30) But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Master, save me. (31) And immediately YHWSHUA stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Faith and fear opposites! You can't have one with the other...

Rom 11:19-20 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in. (20) Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

Heb 11:27 By faith (Moshe) forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

Rev 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days; be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

We can.. and must have faith no matter what it looks like around us. The enemy would combat our faith with fear, and we must fight back with Faith!

Exo 14:13-14 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of YHWH, which he will show to you today: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them again no more forever. (14) YHWH shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

Psa 56:3-4 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. (4) In Elohim I will praise his word, in Elohim I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

Eph 6:12-18 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of YHWH, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (15) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of YHWH: (18) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

1Pe 5:8-9 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (9) Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

1Jn 5:4-5 For whatsoever is born of YHWH overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. (5) Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that YHWSHUA is the Son of YHWH?

  1. Then EliYAH became discouraged (perhaps because of his reaction to Jezebel?) and desired to die...

EliYAH lost his vision momentarily...

He forgot the priorities YHWH had given him to accomplish

When we lose perspective, it causes us to become defeated and discouraged!

Pro 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Hos 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy Elohim, I will also forget thy children.

Amo 8:11-12 Behold, the days come, saith the Master YHWH, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of YHWH: (12) And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of YHWH, and shall not find it.

  1. Finally after divine intervention his imagination leaves him thinking that he is the only one left serving YHWH (Perhaps a little pride on EliYAH's part?)

Pro 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as YHWH hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

1Co 12:20-27 But now are they many members, yet but one body. (21) And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. (22) Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: (23) And those members of the body, which we think to be less honorable, upon these we bestow more abundant honor; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. (24) For our comely parts have no need: but YHWH hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honor to that part which lacked: (25) That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. (26) And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it. (27) Now ye are the body of Messiah, and members in particular.

YHWH will help us stay this pride!

2Co 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

Jezebel (the Spirit not the person) was EliYAH's "thorn in the flesh". So YHWH instructed EliYAH to delegate to others that which he felt he couldn't accomlish

We, too, need to prioritize our lives....

  1. Love YHWH with all of your Heart and Mind...

Mat 6:24-33 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve YHWH and mammon. (25) Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? (26) Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? (27) Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? (28) And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: (29) And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (30) Wherefore, if YHWH so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? (31) Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (32) (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. (33) But seek ye first the kingdom of YHWH, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

  1. Love Neighbor as Yourself

  1. Define priorities: Write them down!

  2. Avoid distractions and lack of focus.

  3. Don't let fear stand in the way of completing our task at hand

  4. Don't Lose Your Vision

  5. Don't create impossible situations -

Don't bite off more than you can chew...

Do what we have been called to do and don't think more highly of ourself than we ought! We are all part of the whole. No man is an island!! Delegate (but don't shirk) the responsibility...

Remember - YHWH will never give you more to do than you can handle - Php 4:13 I can do all things through Messiah which strengtheneth me. And if there comes a "thorn in the flesh", YHWH's grace is sufficient for us!!

What is "The Most Important Thing to Do Right Now?"

Bite sized pieces... not all at once....

Whatever you do.. do it heartily as unto YHWH!

Col 3:17 - And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Master YHWSHUA, giving thanks to YHWH and the Father by him.

Col 3:23-24 - And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to YHWH, and not unto men;

Knowing that of YHWH ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance; for ye serve the Master Messiah.

1 Corinthians 10:31- "Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of YHWH."
