Shabbat Message 11-01-08
Are We Attached to This Life?

Pro 16:1-33 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from YHWH. (2) All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but YHWH weigheth the spirits. (3) Commit thy works unto YHWH, and thy thoughts shall be established. (4) YHWH hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. (5) Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to YHWH: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished. (6) By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of YHWH men depart from evil. (7) When a man's ways please YHWH, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. (8) Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right. (9) A man's heart deviseth his way: but YHWH directeth his steps. (10) A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment. (11) A just weight and balance are YHWH's: all the weights of the bag are his work. (12) It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness. (13) Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right. (14) The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it. (15) In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain. (16) How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver! (17) The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul. (18) Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (19) Better it is to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. (20) He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in YHWH, happy is he. (21) The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning. (22) Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly. (23) The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips. (24) Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. (25) There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (26) He that laboreth laboreth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him. (27) An unrighteous man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire. (28) A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends. (29) A violent man enticeth his neighbor, and leadeth him into the way that is not good. (30) He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass. (31) The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness. (32) He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. (33) The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of YHWH.

Are we Attached to this Life?

1Jn 3:1-10 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of YHWH: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. (2) Beloved, now are we the sons of YHWH, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. (3) And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. (4) Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. (5) And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. (6) Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. (7) Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. (8) He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of YHWH was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (9) Whosoever is born of YHWH doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of YHWH. (10) In this the children of YHWH are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of YHWH, neither he that loveth not his brother.

· YHWSHUA said we have been set free!

Joh 8:31-32 Then said YHWSHUA to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; (32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

1Jn 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of YHWH was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

· Why is it that the works of the devil have been destroyed... but we are still walking as bound?

· Why do we continue to sin even though we are free from sin? What is holding us in this place?

Rom 7:14-17 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. (15) For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. (16) If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. (17) Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

· What are these chains binding us to flesh? What is it that the wicked one is using to keep us under his control so often?

Detachment

When we are attached to some person, thing, or worldly matter, no matter what it is, we are controlled by that thing!

If we are attached to things we will experience pain & suffering.

Luk 9:23-25 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. (24) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. (25) For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

Mat 10:38-39 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. (39) He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Joh 12:24-26 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. (25) He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. (26) If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor.

Being detached means that we are able to keep our minds above any turmoil or trials of the environment.

Exo 23:13 And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other elohim, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.

Eph 5:15-16 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, (16) Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Don't sweat the small stuff... and it's all small stuff!

In Non-attachment we keep a long range view on things, rather than looking to immediate gratification and fears.

Implies a renunciation of worldly desires

Joh 17:14-16 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. (15) I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. (16) They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

We keep a open mind in making judgements rather than judgements based on personal biases.

We need to accept that we can't change or control a person, place, or thing.

We have to to allow people to be who they "really are'' rather than who we "want them to be.''

Mat 7:1-2 Judge not, that ye be not judged. (2) For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Rom 2:1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

Shouldn't be confused with non-action or the lack of goals. We should have goals... but not be attached to the outcome of those goals. Rather experience the present moment!

Live in the now!!

If we cling to the desire for things to be permanent, then we will develop strong attachments, an because of attachment we will suffer. Life changes... and we need to go with these things and not try to hold on to the past...

Every trial.. tribulation, suffering, and sorrow that we face in this life is based on attachment!

If you are attached, you project negative emotions of fear, doubt, or craving which actually attracts the opposite of your desire. You are operating from a position of worry, fear and doubt rather than serenity, trust and faith.

Attachment creates insecurity no matter how much we have.

Many who have the most of what they want are the most insecure.

You are always wondering if you and how we can keep what we have... or will we lose it.

This leads to insecurity which in turn causes fear & unhappiness.

Job 3:25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

Mar 4:40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

 Swimming against the stream... learn to let go. You can actually float upstream by using the backcurrents... but it is hard when you struggle.

When life is a fight... we try so hard that we actually cause problems in our life.

Flow with the waves of live! Knowing that all is in YHWH's hands...

YHWH is in Control!

Detachment doesn't mean we feel nothing or are indifferent. It is knowing that YHWH is in control. Better to depend on YHWH than to depend on your own strength

Psa 127:1 Except YHWH build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except YHWH keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

What you can control, you should control

What you can’t control, you should let go and let YHWH, then everything is in control!

We must trust YHWH's Divine Order and Divine Timing.

Luk 12:31-34 But rather seek ye the kingdom of YHWH; and all these things shall be added unto you. (32) Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. (33) Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. (34) For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Being unattached is resting in the knowledge of the grace of YHWH

Knowing that He is always working everything through you and together for your greatest good.

Rom 8:37-39 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. (38) For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, (39) Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of YHWH, which is in Messiah YHWSHUA our Master.

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love YHWH, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Gen 50:19-20 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of Elohim? (20) But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but Elohim meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

Sometimes we try to work things out....

but the harder we try to work it out, the worse it gets?

When we are attached... we make bad decisions...

We have to have what it is we are attached to, and we react instead of acting in order to get it. We try to make it happen at all costs. And the harder we try the more mistakes we make.

Attachment to the outcome causes resistance

When we allow YHWH to work within us, it becomes effortless.

We have to break the attachment and stop the worrying.

Php 4:5-7 Let your moderation be known unto all men. YHWH is at hand. (6) Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto YHWH. (7) And the peace of YHWH, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Messiah YHWSHUA.

We shouldn't be attached to anyone or anything.

YHWH's nature is to be detached from everything (Part of everything but not attached to anything!)

He allows his creation to be free. This is why HE gave us freewill!

 To be detached is to be like YHWH.

Joh 14:10-14 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. (11) Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. (12) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. (13) And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. (14) If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

We need to become people who don’t have a care in a the world. We can feel good no matter what happens. We must keep ourselves joyful, positive and at peace always!

Joh 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
