FAA Location Identifiers
Here's the place to find all the Location Identifiers for way points, high and low altitude intersections, airport codes, VOR and NDB codes and much more. http://www.faa.gov/airports_airtraffic/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/LID/LIDHME.HTM For those of you who are interested in adding user waypoints to your RXP GNS430/530 database, this is a good source of information. Let me give you an example:
I was recently flying an Alaskan adventure from Fairbanks to Valdez. Any of you who have flown this route know that Valdez PAVD is a challenge, even on the best of days. I checked AirNav and found there is a LDA/DME instrument approach to RWY6 that is not in the old database. I used the waypoints provided on the approach plate, the lat/long coordinates provided in the Location Indentifiers (Chapter1., Section 6-A, alphabetic listings) and the create user waypoint feature of my RXP GNS430. By creating a flight plan using these waypoints, I could then activate it and fly it as an approach into Valdez. I let the AP fly the waypoints while I concentrated on altitudes and air speeds. When I turned off the AP coming over the fence, my Twin Otter was lined up for a nice landing.
