SDSS DR6 Cluster Catalog

Overview
The new cluster catalogs were created by using GMBCG algorithm based on the SDSS DR6 data. An important technique here is to use a scaled aperture based on an initial fixed aperture richness. The scaling relation is obtained from Eli using his x-ray scatter analysis. Though we cannot go to very low richness using this method, it can give us the "best" restults we can attain at present.

There are altogether 4 versions of the new full catalog: v1.5,v1.6, v1.7 and v1.8
  • v1.5: use scaling relation based on 0.5 Mpc richness and use lh=bcglh * weighted_nfw_lh to rank them.
  • v1.6: obsolete
  • v1.7: obsolete
  • v1.8: obsolete
  • v1.9: using 0.5 Mpc, removed the requirement that color_clr > color_bgd, fixed the bug in ecgmm(10/28/08)
  • v2.0: in addition to v1.9, color_wdh_clr < color_wdh_bgd is removed too because some big clusters(10/29/08)
  • v2.1: using ecgmm (12/1/08), mc test is done

Catalog Facts:
z from 0.05 to 0.5; about 30000 clusters with richness greater than 15. The following plots are some statistics for the BCGs.


Comoving Density of Clusters (NOT normalized properly yet, you the true density should be a vertical shift of the following result)






Blending procedures:  Blending procedure is crucial for a clean cluster catalog. The cluster finder picks up all possible clustering peaks and a post blending process is necessary to merge many of the close peaks. In the new version, I adopted a two step blending process. Step 1: for very close clusters (250kpc), merge them; step 2: for clusters within 1 R and redshift difference 0.15, merge the fainter one iff their weighted_nfw_lh smaller too.

Cluster Selection Cuts: cuts on the ridgeline width are applied to select the good clusters. Also, BCGLH > 0.1 is introduced. The ridgeline width cut is from the following width distribution of cluster/background component (red is for the background component). For gmr_wdh, it should be less then 0.15 and for rmi_wdh, it should be less then 0.1. Meanwhile, the width of cluster component should be smaller than the background component.

 


Scaling relations:
        R = normalization * richness^(power)

  • For 0.5 Mpc: R = 0.50* richness ^(0.1)
  • For 0.7 Mpc: R = 0.50* richness ^(0.1)

  • The following plots are some summary for scaling relations based on the results from Eli.
