Letter from the Board - Deana Jansa
As the Secretary of the Board of Directors for Restoring Hope Transplant House, I have been involved in the project since the concept was first shared. When Cindy approached me about the idea of the Transplant House I was working as the Program Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program and I jumped at the idea of having such wonderful support for our patients. Having been involved in bone marrow transplant care in the area for more than 15 years, I have witnessed many patient situations where their families are traveling a long distance. These patients and families need a comfortable, clean, affordable place to stay while they wait for their transplant and afterwards, while they recover from their transplant. All of those patients could have benefitted from a house like Restoring Hope Transplant House, but we've set our sites on those patients yet to come.
The sense of urgency to get the Transplant House doors open is real. Cindy gets inquiries about accomodations at the Restoring Hope Transplant House nearly every day, from all over the state, from transplant patients and their families seeking a place to stay while they wait or recover from their transplants. Until the needed renovations to the house are complete, we're forced to turn these people away.
Because transplant patients have very specific needs, we can't allow them to stay at the house until renovations are 100 percent complete. Because transplant patients' immune systems are supressed with medications so their bodies will accept the new organs, issues like construction dust would put transplant patients at much greater risk of infection. Although we want nothing more than to be open and operating, we can not put patients at risk.
This is where you come in. Be a Friend of Restoring Hope Transplant House, and join us on the journey to open this house for transplant recipients and their families.
Gratefully,
Deana Jansa
