type here -Erica 11/18/08 11:20 AM On November 4, 2008, voters in the U.S. will elect a new president, as well as 470 members of Congress. Whichever candidates are elected, they will face an array of pressing issues at home and abroad, all demanding attention and action. Where do we start? Voters can express their priorities in the voting booth, but young people also deserve to be heard. It’s your future too. What do you believe is the most urgent issue for the new President to tackle? What would you say to the candidates for the 470 seats open in Congress? What would you want the voting public to think about as they go to the polls? Your letter will be published for the candidates and the voting public to read. Can you convince them of the importance of the issue you care about? Can you move them to action on November 4…and after?

Oceans, tropical rain forests, and polar ice caps are all homes to many different kinds of animals, but when we cut, melt, or dirty them we are killing those thousands of animals that live there. Is there anything you can do about it??? Yes there is and maybe someday there won't be any worry about that happening. If so, that is a long time from now. Start with this...

IS IT REALLY THEIR FAULT??!!
Grade: 95 Excellent work. Great details and supporting reasons -Erica Hartman 11/17/08 9:17 AM
Dear Future President,
I am Emma A. writing all the way from NJ to tell you about all the endangered animals in the world. A lot of  animals that there used to be a lot of are endangered now due to humans. For example;do you know what really happens to animals during an oil spill? Some can fly away but most get stuck in the spill. Then tons of people have to go to the shore to clean everything up. It is not as easy as it seems, though. Specialists are called to scrape off all the gunk from the poor helpless animals and i think that this whole long sticky process should be changed. In fact we shouldn't even have to deal with any of it, I say you try the best you can to stop it!

Now, you may think this is a silly cause and not as important as many others but, it is just as important.I do care if the polar bears get extinct. And to make it worse, it is all our fault! A poor polar bear  is stuck on a small ice cap floating out to sea. The warmer it gets, the more the ice cap melts ,finally the polar bear is stuck in the middle of the ocean, and we all know what happens next. Also, tearing down rain forests kills all the animals that live there such as panthers, frogs, birds etc. Some of those animals are dangerous, but that doesn't mean they should have their homes destroyed so we can have paper so, my idea is that we find a way to get those animals out and into a safer place before we tear it down, ( Why not try it?) or we open more safer animal homes that way no one can enter unless agreed to and no one can cut it down.

I know half of what I explained about in the top two paragraphs seems impossible, but I really don't believe we should just give up and let animals become extinct! I also know that there are organizations preventing this type of thing from happening, but a little help goes a long way (especially when it is from the president!).Even with all these people helping us to finally see a white tiger or polar bear in the wild one day, it is not enough. Animals are disappearing off the face of the earth and somebody should stop it! Is it really their fault, can they stop it from happening? Think about it.
                                                                                                           Thanks for your concern,
                                                                                                                             Emma A.
