Board and Committee Meeting

December 4, 2008



Call to order, opening prayer, introductions. President Pam O’Toole called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and opened the meeting with a prayer.


Approval of November Mintues. Mrs. O’Toole circulated copies of the November board meeting minutes, a draft of which had been previously made available on the Academy’s website. Diana Day Ivanjack, PTG secretary, reviewed the draft minutes. Upon motion duly made and seconded, the minutes from the November meeting were approved.


Principal’s report. Mr. Mamara reviewed upcoming calendar events, including the geography bee and spelling bee for grades 4 – 8. There will be preliminary rounds in the classrooms, followed by a final round in the Hall.


Mr. Mamara noted that there is early dismissal on December 5th, and no day care that afternoon. There is no school on December 8th (WASC workday).


He discussed various Christmas events, including the Traditions of Christmas program which will be attended by classes K – 4, the school Christmas program the evening of December 18th, and Christmas break, which begins December 19th and runs through January 4th.


Mr. Mamara noted that 77 of the parent surveys had been returned and are being tallied.


He provided an update re the preschool construction process. He noted that he is scheduled to have a final meeting with the contractor next week to discuss budget issues. Construction on the interior of the building is expected to take approximately eight weeks. The process is running about four weeks behind the initial schedule. The office is beginning to receive inquiries from interested parents, and is making a list of such contacts. A preschool playground structure committee, comprised of various stakeholder representatives, has been established and is meeting to make a recommendation re the playground equipment.


President’s report. Mrs. O’Toole reported that a used uniform sale is underway tonight as a follow up to the sale last month, which netted $125.


Mrs. O’Toole provided a report on the school Christmas ornament, which was designed by Ms. Barron. It is a beautiful red globe featuring the Academy’s name, and is on sale for $10. Mrs. O’Toole is seeking volunteers to help sell the ornament at various upcoming functions.


Mrs. O’Toole discussed the upcoming restaurant night, December 17th at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Academy. Last month’s restaurant night at Blueberry Hill netted almost $300 for the school.


First Vice President/Room parent report. Mrs. Kristi Inzunza, First Vice President and room parent Chair, presented the room parent chair report. She noted the silent auction and live auction projects will need to be completed by March 1, 2009.


Treasurer’s Report. Mrs. Sandy provided the Treasurer’s report. She noted that she is providing period updates re the overall PTG budget, as well as class budgets, via email.


Committee Reports. Mrs. O’Toole asked various committee chairs to provide reports.


Grandparents’ Day. Mrs. Slattery, chair of the Grandparents’ Day committee, provided an update regarding the January 30 event. She reminded those in attendance that the invitations had already been sent home with the children via the Tuesday Treasure packet. She reviewed some contemplated changes in this years’ program. This year the grandparents will sit with their grandchildren in mass, and then go directly to the classrooms, where there will be a classroom presentation. This will be followed by an open house, photographs in the courtyard, and a sing-a-long program. Food will be served in the hall. Mrs. Slattery encouraged grandparents to RSVP so that we have adequate seating and food available.


New families. Mrs. Wolff noted that a kindergarten open house will be held on January 12th for incoming kindergarten families.


Adjournment. Mrs. O’Toole adjourned the meeting at 8:05 p.m.
