• A lot of people get tarps that barely cover their fly but if get a tarp that is twice the dimensions of the footprint of your tent, then you can better protect your tent from rain and you can create a large vestibule for your gear.

• Wind will affect larger tarps more, so make sure to peg/tie it down properly and set it up so the wind is being dumped off the walls

• take up a lot of space but are good for handing thing on and sitting on to tie your boots up in the morning

• usually the company will let you know if they supply you with bags or not

• a lot of companies will offer to sell you bags and shovels when you arrive at camp

*Planting shovels (1+)

• General rule for shovel length is that the blade should be barely touching the ground when you’re holding the shovel and hanging it by your side

• A lot of shovels are getting shorter and some planters have a short shovel for fast land and a longer/heavier one for slower/harder land

• A lot of companies have shovels for sale in camp as well

Pocket knife (1)

• 2L pop bottles, gas can, or whatever you can find that holds water

• the insulated jugs are nice for cold water but tend to break

• something with a handle is nice too

• don’t get a jug too big because sometimes you will be carrying it for a long time

• 10L of water carrying capacity is solid

• there are leathers, rubbers, plastic, and rubber/leather boots

• the Viking black tusks are pretty much the standard work horse of treeplanting

• marks work wearhouse will replace a pair of wrecked boots once, so that is worth looking into

• make sure to wear them in before the season for a long time

*Rain gear (1)

• don’t get the 15 dollar rubber rain gear, it will rip when it first touches a stick

Gloves (4+)

• Average about 1.5 weeks each

• The nitrile coated gardening gloves are the best

• They can be found at home depot, marks work wearhouse, gear-up for outdoors, and most gardening centres

• A narrow mouth one is nice for the bumpy bus rides
