Materials Used in the Project

cell phone- captured audio of the children saying their names

www.gabcast.com- web site that stored the mp3 files captured by the cell phone

digital camera- captured the images

digital recorder- captured the audio of the observations by the students

Switch- free audio converter

Audacity with Lame mp3 encoder- free audio editing program to “clean up” the audio files

Windows Movie Maker- created the movie

www.podomatic.com- podcasting and vodcasting host.

 

 

Steps in creating the Leaf Walk Vodcast

 

On the day of the trip:

Record the students’ responses with the digital voice recorder or cell phone with Gabcast. Ask parents to take digital pictures.

After the trip:

• Gather digital images in one folder.
• Transfer audio from the digital recorder to the computer and covert the file type to .mp3 using Switch, a free web tool.
• Clean up the audio clips using Audacity and decide upon the order of the audio
• Using Windows Movie Maker, insert the audio first. Then, insert the images to go with the audio. It is much easier to stretch the time the image stays on the screen to match its corresponding audio. Insert any title slides or slides to “set up” an upcoming part.
• Publish the project then upload to Podomatic. Use the html code to embed the vodcast into a blog, wiki, web page or social networking site.
