International Campaign "Cuban Vanished Rafters"

Almost daily international agencies of press bring to light news related to Cuban Rafters rescued on the high seas, detained by the authorities of diverse countries of the area of North America, Central America and of the Caribbean or that have arrived to determined country without more news on them.

Since 1992 several Cuban families suffer the uncertainty of not knowing the location and the situation of various Cubans. Their exit from Cuba has been confirmed and also is known that they have not been repatriated. But, where are them?

Rumors are circulating about Cubans imprisoned since over two years ago in Belize; issaid about Cubans rescued on the high seas and carried to Peru; news have arrived about the existence of more than 70 Cubans in the Naval Base of Guantánamo the ones that itself prohibit them to communicate with the outside; has been reported of Cubans detained in Tapachula, Mexico; there are around 50 Cubans in Great Cayman, detained in immigration centers and others under arrest without saying a word about them in the Bahamas, but at the end, everything remains as news or rumors, many of them without being confirmed.

The authorities of the different countries of the area, starting with the United States, keep in secret everything about The Cuban Rafters found or detained. Most of the time it's been known of their existence through news published in some newspapers that, in most cases, they do not bring their names to light.

From Cubans without Borders requests of aid to scores of mass media have been sent and to journalists; to agencies and international organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (CICR), the Pan-american Company of Press (SIP), Reporters without Borders (RSF), the Latin-American Confederacy of Journalists (FELAP), the Agency for Refugees of the United Nations (ACNUR), etc., even authorities of different countries without having positive results.

This calling does not pursue political objectives neither has the purpose to analyze the causes or the Cuban civic reasons why are launched at sea seeking a new destiny. It is above all, a calling of deeply humane character in favor of their relatives that suffer day by day the pain of the ignorance of the luck of their loving relatives and of the constant uncertainty about their locations.

For all this, we request to the international community its aid to find these Cuban Rafters who are disappeared. We request the authorities of the countries involved that they make public all related to the Cuban Rafters rescued, detained or repatriated. We request to the media of communication, to the agencies and international organizations, to the governments of the countries involved and to the population in general their aid and cooperation to find these vanished Cubans.
