As faculty advisor for the Zeta Lambda Chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, I want to be the first to welcome our
2008 2009 Academic Year Officers:
President -- Jackie Marchand (jamarcha@uno.edu)
Vice President -- Marco Allain (mallain@uno.edu)
Secretary -- Becky Marchand (rmarchan@uno.edu)
Treasurer -- Brandie Mitchell (bsmitch1@uno.edu)
Historian -- Steve Stevens (sssteven@uno.edu)
I’ve included their emails so if you have any new business you’d like them to consider, please contact them.
I’ve attached the recently approved GTU constitution which is also visible on the International website: http://www.gammathetaupsilon.org/constitution-toc.html
Where the Water Meets the Sky, is a film being shown on October 6 in Kirschman Hall 122 at 6:30. It’s about Zambian women, the screening free, and there will be a discussion afterwards by Ms. Katie Dignan of the Peace Corps in Zambia there to discuss the movie as we snack on appropriate finger foods provided by the Women’s Center. Since GTU is one of the sponsors of this screening, I hope you all can make it. Other sponsors include International Studies, PGM, UNOGS, Camfed, and the Geography Dept.
Meeting Minutes:
Do we want to try to be a part of the Visiting Geographical Scientist Program this year? Yes. The potential folks to invite are attached in the VGSPscientists list on this email. Please let Jackie Marchand know if there is someone on this list that you’d like to hear. The details of the program are here: http://www.aag.org/Education/aag/edu_visitingscientist.cfm
GTU Geography Bowl Team? As Juana Ibanez is the regional counselor, is there enough interest in the ZL chapter to form a GTU Geography Bowl Team consisting of SWAAG GTU types to participate in the SWAAG Geography Bowl playoff at the SWAAG meetings? Yes. Juana will email other GTU chapters in SWAAG to stir up an interest.
Fieldtrip offers for visiting GTU Chapters to UNO campus? There is a possibility that GTU chapters within the region may want to come to New Orleans for academic and collegial reasons. What field trips in this area can be offered to any visiting chapters? The free Lafitte Park trips on both sides of the river have been suggested.
Announcements:
Department Travel Monies available for AAG papers, posters, panel presentations for students courtesy of Geography Department and AAG. Abstract must be submitted in order to be considered for these funds.
GTU has scholarships available. Everyone that is still in school should seriously consider applying for them – as many as you can. http://www.gammathetaupsilon.org/scholarships.html
BTW, our own chapter’s historian, Steve Stevens, has been awarded a scholarship! Congratulations Steve!
Is everyone getting UNOGS emails? If you are on this email roster, you should be getting all the UNOGS emails. Please let Juana know if you are not getting emails and would like to get them.
The meeting was adjourned.
