A Word from the Pastor
Dear Friends in Faith,
Good morning, friends, and welcome to God’s house today! We often think of Lent as a time of sacrifice, when God asks us to “give up” something. Instead, let us use this time to reflect on all of God’s blessings, and to learn ways to be more faithful to God’s call on our lives. It’s not always easy, but with God’s help and each other, we can get closer and closer to fulfilling all of God’s dreams for us!
In Christ’s Love, Steve Johnson, Student Pastor
Lenten Lunches
Every year during Lent South Livonia UCC, St Matthew Roman Catholic Church, United Church of Livonia, Livonia Presbyterian Church, Conesus United Church and Lakeville UCC participate in a Lenten Lunches Series on Wednesday at noon at the Livonia Presbyterian Church. Each church takes turns to serve lunch and to present a short program. Everyone is welcome to come. Our “turn” will be this week Wednesday, February 13th. We will need soups, sandwiches, cookies, and people to serve. Please let a Deacon know if you would like to help.
Thank You
Thanks to all those who either prepared, set-up, served and cleaned up for last Sunday's lunch. Thanks to everyone who attended and participated in our first Full Council meeting of 2008.
Thank you for filling up the LUCC grocery cart again this month for the Livonia Area Parish Pantry. In addition to the many gifts of non-perishable items, "quiet money" was also given to support meat and dairy purchases by the Food Pantry. If you missed last week's collection, you can always bring your gifts and place in the grocery cart in the back hallway anytime.
Social Hour
Social Hour Host sign-up list is posted on the hallway bulletin board. Please consider doing partnership to host a social hour after worship. It's a great time to gather and share fellowship with each other.
Teresa House
Teresa House is currently looking for more volunteers. Teresa House is a comfort care home that cares for the terminally ill from our community. They are now offering orientation classes for new recruits. For more information on this great cause, call 243-1978.
Lenten Bible Study
There will be a Lenten Bible Study here at LUCC, in the Thatcher Room, on the Letters of Paul each Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 pm. Everyone is invited to attend these studies following the Lenten Luncheons.
This Month's Mission is LEAF
The Livingston Emergency Assistance Fund is a program of Catholic Charities. LUCC is trying to raise funds to help Catholic Charities meet a grant challenge. LEAF offers assistance for those who need help with heating, help with housing, and emergency prescriptions for people without medical insurance in Livingston County. Catholic Charities will receive a $15,000 grant when they can raise $30,000; through December about 1/3 of that goal has been raised. There are special LEAF envelopes in the pews; if one has already been used, please use a regular pew envelope and write "LEAF" on it. Donations through last week total $75.
Lay Ministry Team
Several people have discerned that their God-given gifts include ministry leadership in the church. If you also have discerned that you have this gift and would like to use it, please see Pastor Deborah soon.
Prayer List
If you would like to have someone on our Prayer List please fill out a pew card (include your name) and put the card in the collection plate.
Let us pray for our families, World Leaders, those serving in the military, those who have served our country and have been wounded, those suffering from cancer, those recovering from operations, those recovering from trauma or accidents, those who suffer from alienation or ill-will, those who don’t have enough to eat, those who need work; Sharon, Tyler, Lois, Danielle, Jim’s family, Mark’s family.
PLEASE NOTE: Don Lewis is temporarily residing, for therapy, at the Highlands @ Brighton, 5901 Lac de Ville Blvd., Rochester, NY 14618. This is located at the corner of S. Clinton and Westfall. Cards and visits would be most welcome.
