Hybrid internet courses offer a combination of in-class and Internet instruction. Classes will meet once a month on Saturday. The rest of the instruction will be offered online. There will be regular weekly assignments and quizzes, and occasional chat sessions that will be held on Saturdays at the same hour or at other mutually convenient times. To be successful with this mode of delivery, students must be self-directed learners who are goal oriented and self

disciplined.
Two hybrid Internet classes were offered by Professor Ted Goertzel in the Fall semester of 2008.
50:920:301
Methods and Techniques of Social Research .
Meets 9:00 to 11:30 on September 6, October 4, November 1 and December 13.
50:920:425
Cyberspace and Society.
Meets 1:00 to 3:30 on September 6, October 4, November 1 and December 13.
The Cyberspace and Society class will be offered again in the Spring semester of 2009. The
syllabus is available online.
The textbooks, assignments and final examination for the Methods and Techniques course will be the same as in the regular sessions of the class, and it will meet the requirement for criminal justice and sociology majors. The Cyberspace and Society course will count towards the sociology major, but it is not a writing intensive course.

Students must have Internet access to take these courses, either at home or in a computer center at Rutgers or elsewhere. The Methods Course uses statistical software that may be installed on Windows computers and which is also available at the computer labs at Rutgers.
During the semester, Dr. Goertzel will be available on campus in Camden by appointment to meet with students who need individualized help.
