Everyone should give PC Andy Gerde a pat on the back for his efforts on our Labor Day weekend event to La Conner. We had decent weather, a beautiful day on the way there, a few showers during our stay, but a nice day for our return home. We arrived on Friday and everyone went into town for dinner at the pub. On Saturday we started with eye openers and Kent Soffel put together a huge breakfast for everyone. Andy put together a fun afternoon discovery hunt to familiarize everyone with the town, which is very cute, and a wonderful BBQ steak dinner on the dock. On Sunday we did everyone’s favorite, a pot luck breakfast. We had an easy afternoon, then it was chicken on the grill, but dinner broke up a little early due to a rain shower.  We had twelve boats on the dock and several couples that arrived by land. For a long distance event, I thought we had a very good turnout.

Our next big event has changed. In response to popular demand, October’s event has been moved to Halloween and will be held in Poulsbo. Now I would like to challenge everyone to break out their best costumes and show up for a fun contest. Rumor has it the theme will be pimps and “girls of the night.” This piqued my interest. I know everyone will make it to the bakery and there is always the shopping. There will be other clubs there, so the dock will be tight, but some of us will anchor out to make room for the boats that need the dock. This is the last boating event of the year, so cast off those lines and join us for a grand finale weekend. The holiday season will begin before we know it and we will all get stuck to the dock until spring, which I hear starts in February at Kirkland.

Everyone needs to attend Novembers “Pay Your Dues” party /Annual meeting. I hate to say it, but our coffers are a little low, so bring your friends and your check books. Laura Williamson is putting together a fun night at the Rock Salt with music, fine food and a silent auction with tons of goodies that we all need. If you want to bring your boat, you can raft on the reciprocal dock. This is a great event to introduce new people to the club, and we can use some more members. It is also a good time to meet some of the members that we don’t see very often. We have some old timers we don’t always see that show up along with people that joined just this year. If you see someone you don’t recognize, stop and say hello, the club is full of great people and this is an excellent chance to make new close friends. We will also be voting on next year’s bridge. There is a limited selection, but it is everyone’s duty to vote.

We will cap my year as commodore with the Commodores ball in January, another event that everyone should attend. PC Andy Gerde is organizing an elegant evening in Ballard at Carnegies. I am trying to keep these events close to self supporting. The club doesn’t need any more money loosing events, but I do want everyone to attend, so shake out your tux and gowns and put on your dancing shoes. Party time is close at hand.
