Google PortfoliosOver View:
Needs:- self-reflection - common section on pages within sites
- Could do Google Docs as subpages and they could be private or could leave public comments on individual pages.
- student work examples
- Images/Art could be in Picasa Web Album
- Videos could be in Google Video or YouTube
- Audio would have to be hosted somewhere else and linked to
- Text can be created in Google Docs and copied into the site
- public vs. private
- Teachers will have to decide whether the portfolios are public or private
- If private are the open to other students at the school or only to invited individuals (this decision will impact the overall structure of the sites)
- overall structure
- does subject matter?
- Portfolios for different subjects will undoubtedly be laid out differently
- Portfolios for students at different academic levels will also be differently
- type of portfolio
- should teacher impose a structure
- Should at least recommend a structure. Sites can be slightly overwhelming if you have no ideas
- decide on type of portfolio
- cross linking > peer recommendations
- digital resume
- needs a catchy name! :) (Katie)
Sorts of Work- images/art

- audio
- or compilations

The Physics of Sports:
I was lucky enough to receive a grant from the Toshiba America Foundation to fund a project in the Physics of Sports. Students, working in small groups, will use sports to learn physics concepts this semester. Each group will select one aspect of a sport to collect data and shoot videos of early in the semester. These will be analyzed throughout the rest of the semester as we get to the different concepts. By the end of the semester they will have analyzed every possible aspect of their motion.
We will use Google Sites as a portfolio of all their work on the project.
Nuts and Bolts:
- There will be one Site for the entire project. I will create a blank sub-page for each group to work in.
- Groups will work in Google Docs and publish to their site.
- After each piece is added to their site students will write a reflection in Google Docs and I will be able to leave private comments on it for them.
- Our school has chosen to use SchoolTube for video sharing. I will also collect full quality versions of the videos and upload them to the archive.org
