Tennis Parent Information and Team Philosophy

TEAM PHILOSOPHY: There is no heavier burden then a great potential! (Unknown Author)

Our tennis program will be centered in bring out the great potential in each one of our tennis players. We will strive to compete in a manner that represents player, team and the school in a positive manner. Players will learn, we are first team players and secondly individual players, working to make each other successful athletes who display character in all areas of life.

Parents' Information:

The best place to get updated practice and meet information will be on the LSW Tennis Web Site http://lsw.lps.org/dhersh

Home meets start @ 4:00, players need to be at the playing site by 3:45. Varsity home meets are played@Woods Tennis Center, unless otherwise noted on the schedule. J.V./Res meets are played at the home teams courts. All players are responsible for getting themselves to and from a meet that is in Lincoln

(The schedules lists who is the home team)

Meets consist of playing 1-6 singles matches and 1-3 doubles matches. An 8 game pro-set is used for scoring. (First player to win 8 games, by 2., tie breaker is played @ 8-8.

Tournament play is usually structured as follows. You may play, #1 and #2 singles and #1 and #2doubles, for a total of six players. Some meets are round robin and some are double elimination.

Head coaches are the only people allowed to talk to the players while the match is in progress. The head coach may only coach for 60 sec on side switches. (Switches happen on every odd game)

Please remember, the coach may be watching as many as six different matches at any given time. So please be understanding that we will not be able to coach your daughter/son on every switch over.

We as coaches want you to be excited for your daughter/son as they play, but we want to make sure to cheer in an appropriate way. Many times you will hear fans/parents cheering/clapping, etc, when the opponent makes a mistake which gives their player the point. I would encourage you to refrain from this type of cheering. But a simple cheer of nice point good effort way to hang in there would be great! If our players hits a really nice shot, or a winner, then by all means, great shot, way to go etc. If you have questions about the rules of tennis get with one of the coaches after a meet/practice.

Many of the places we play have limited to no seating. You may want to bring a chair to the meet/tour.

Var players travel for many meets and tournaments. We depart and return to the LSW tennis courts. Players are not allowed to ride home from meets/tournaments with parents unless it has been pre-approved with the coach.

Tennis Absence Procedures: Each player will receive three excused absences for the season. These need to be prearranged and approved by your coach. Please remember every time you are gone, it does impact what can be accomplished in practice.

Players must maintain a passing grade in each of their current classes to be eligible to participate in meets and tournaments. Players will be eligible to participate when their grade is back in passing status.

Regular, punctual attendance in all classes is essential to participation in the tennis program. A tennis player who has an unexcused absence will be ineligible to participate in the next scheduled contest. Two unexcused absences during the season will result in dismissal from the tennis team. If a tennis players is ill on a school day, they may not participate that afternoon in practice or a meet/tournament (This does not include school approved absences or medical appointments.)

If players are not passing a class, they will still be able to practice.
