Meeting Time

The time to hold UNOGS/GTU meetings was discussed.  An e-mail will be sent out to members to see when is best for them.  Those present at the meeting wrote on a sheet of paper the times and days they would prefer to have meetings.  A permanent time will be set at a future date.

Fundraiser

We will hold a fundraiser on campus in tandem with an Anthropology Club function in October during the second or third week.  Geography club members will look around for things to sell at a tag sale.  A raffle was ruled out as it is a game of chance, which is prohibited on UNO property.  T-shirts will be sold.  Some may be silk screened, others may be tie-dyed.  This will be decided at a future meeting.  Justine has silk screens.  Juana Ibanez will look into procuring a dunking tank.  There will also be baked goods for sale.  Funds raised are to assist club with anticipated  costs pertaining to field trips and conferences.  Several committees were formed to help organize the fund raiser.  The first name on the list is the head of the committee.

Future speakers were discussed. Dr. William Doolittle of UT Austin will discuss “The Diffusion of Cattle into Texas from Mexico” on Nov. 16 at 18:30 (6:30 PM).

Brandy Mitchell would like to present the NASA DEVELOP internship at UNO.  She will be invited to campus in October.  Also, the Stennis Space Center had invited GTU to tour their facility.

On November 21 we will take a trip to the Old River Project run by the Corps of Engineers.  Abraham will look into getting a bus.  Jackie’s father would like to come as he knows a lot about the project.  Foreign students must let us know now if they wish to come as we have to get special permission from the Corps of Engineers for them to be on their property.

We need to find out how many UNOGSand Anthro folks want to go on the fieldtrip.  Abe will research bus cost and possibly secure funds from the Student Government for the bus.

In the spring we will have a Moonlight Tour of Laffite.  We will talk to the State Park Service to set a date.  They have not yet established the fall canoe trip dates.

Geography Awareness Week is from Nov 15-21.  There will be a Geography Bowl.

Geography of Beer and Geography of Coffee will occur every other week on Thursdays.  One will be held every other week at 6:00.  Next week we will have Geography of Beer at Cooter Browns, and Charlene will speak to Starbucks to see if we can have Geography of Coffee at their store.

A tailgate/cookout will be held at the home of Juana Ibanez on October 17 at 12:00.  Everyone is to bring their own food and drinks, but charcoal will be provided.  We will go to the UNO football game afterwards.

A proposal was made to put together a Facebook page for our clubs.  Marie will look into it.

The Anthropology Club has planned the following events during Archaeology Month in October and has invited us to attend.
