Table of Conents: Search Engines   General Advice  Google Tips  SAW Search Tips
Search Engines: Google, searchable, more...
General Advice:
  • Hint: most problems have been encountered before, and the trick is finding known solutions. Exact error messages and good searching techniques can help speed up this process.  Knowing where to search is also important.
Google Search Tips:
  • Add "site:xyz.com" as part of search to narrow to a specific site. For example:
         lvm boot mirror site:hp.com
  • Add "-site:xyz.com" as part of search to eliminate a specific site. For example:
         lvm boot mirror site:hp.com -site:itrc.hp.com

SAW Search Tips:
My SAW Search Tips:
  • Do NOT use Basic Search.
    • Moreoever, Do NOT use "Clear All" in basic search
    • GOTCHA: a "Clear All" in basic search does NOT clear the product.
  • Do use "advanced search"[Americas | EMEA] and then Use "Clear All" button.
    • This allows for an advance search that does not rely on the product that is set for the case.
    • This is [especially] important when SAW is launched from WFM (the product in the WFM case could be wrong or unnecessarily limit the search results).
  • If "All Words" Matching is not working well for you...
    • use + and -, for example: +lvm +boot +mirror -storageworks
    • use "Boolean" Matching...
      • This eliminates the need for key words to appear in a particular order in the title or the body of the documents that are being searched, and use of "not" allows for elimination of undesired hits (e.g. those that you have determined are not appropriate).
      • For example: lvm and boot and mirror and not s700_800
  • Use "[Change]" link to go back - Do not use the Browser's back button
  • If a search results in too many, or no hits are found, then at the top of the window, use "[Change]" link to go back to change the search criteria. Don't use the Browser's back button, as that will erase the search criteria that you have previously entered/selected.
  • As needed, narrow search:
    • Pick the desired "Disclosure level", e.g. "Public"
      • Use Ctrl-click to add additional levels, or to de-select.
    • Enter the "Original Owner", e.g.  authoring group "HPUX"
    • Use "Document Type", e.g...
      • Use "Support Information" as "Document Type", e.g. to get published information, not "Case Text" hits.
      • Use "Case Text" as "Document Type", e.g. to get Case Text hits.
      • Use "--Patch" as "Document Type", e.g. to get patches.
    • If you want to find documents with particular words in it's "Title:", switch Matching from "All Words" to use a "Boolean"
    • [Select/Change Product]
      • Use: Browse the Product Hierarchy » Software » Operating Systems » UNIX Operating Systems » HP-UX Operating Systems
    • Document Type:
      • Support Information --Informational --Operational Procedures --Announcement --Hardware Qualification --HW Accessories Instructions --Exchange Point Locator Alert Fast FAQ Work Instruction documents Quick Check Service --Program --Product --Plan Getting Started Reference --Hardware --Software --Quick Help --Quick Reference --Training --Technical --Parts Map --White Papers --Warranty Statement Safety and Regulatory Service and Maintain --Upgrade Setup and Install --Administrator --Hardware --Software Troubleshooting User software --Release Notes --Read Me --Cover Letter --SPD Case Text Advisory --Engineering Action Advisory --Engineering Advisory --Service Advisory --Service Action Advisory --Customer Advisory Notice --Customer Notice --Service Notice --Engineering Notice Bulletin --Engineering Bulletin --Service Bulletin --Customer Bulletin Security Bulletin --Security Bulletin Product Change Notification --Product Change Notification Service Program Announcement --Service Program Announcement Process and Policy Training Release Note --Patch
  • To find KMINE documents in SAW:
    • To get Case text documents, use "ucr_na-KMN*" in the "Document ID:" field.
    • Use "kmine_migrated" in the "Author" field.
    • To further narrow, e.g. to get RCENs, selecting "Public" as the "Disclosure level".
    • To search for JAGs (CRs), in search string, use "STARS-ACTIVE"
    • ALL the Kmine documents that were migrated into SAW have this eye-catcher in them: "Original Kmine"
      • Adding this in the query string will force your search to all this Kmine contents + the GR8 docs quoting them. This is the best "way" to narrow down your Search on Kmine contents. Now if you want to 'only' focus on the ones deemed high value - they were 'migrated' in Concentra you can top your Search with Version State Final. Only the EMRs docs have this and you'll cut down on the UCR docs.
