Blue Ridge Relay, 2008
August 30, 2008
Captains,
This will be one of the last group communications before the Blue Ridge Relay. Please ensure that you share all information with your team members.
Hurricane Gustav may have an impact by the end of this week in the North Carolina Mountains. Rays Weather is a tremendous resource for the weather forecast in this region. You can link to Rays Weather website from our Maps and Weather page on our website. You may want to beginning planning for a wet weekend.
We’ve had several requests for a simplified spread sheet/cue sheet of the course. Attached is an EXCEL document.
If your team is interested in compiling splits for your runners, you need to do this for your own team. The Relay Officials at each exchange will be recording bib numbers and splits, which will be used for event management purposes only and will not be released after the Relay.
Attached is a WORD document which identifies gas stations along the course. I hope this is helpful.
Course changes: please ensure that your support vehicles and respective runners are aware of the two course changes on Leg 12 and Leg 13. We have one additional course change, which is quite simple. Exchange Zone #33 will now be located at Reems Creek Beech Presbyterian Church, which is on the Left, directly across the street from our former Zone, Beech Community Center.
Parking at the Finish Line:
Limited parking will be available at HomeTrust Bank. We cannot interfere or obstruct access to the building or the ATMs.
We have permission for limited parking in the rear parking lot of 4 Points by Sheraton, which is directly across the street from HomeTrust and just before the Finish Line on the Right on Woodfin. A parking pass is required, which can be obtained from an Official at the Finish Line.
Public parking is also available behind the Renaissance Hotel, which is also just before the Finish Line, on the Left on Woodfin. Parking behind this hotel is priced $3 for 4 hours or $10 all-day.
If you staying at either hotel Saturday night, I’m certain that you have access to these parking lots as a guest of the hotel.
Awards Ceremony:
The awards ceremony will be conducted at the Finish Line between 5:30 and 6:00 pm. The top place team in each category will receive a gift certificate for Mizuno Running Shoes. The Second Place team in each category will receive a gift certificate to Mellow Mushroom in Asheville.
We also have a great post-Relay drawing. You must be present with your bib number to claim a prize. Prizes include, but are not limited to Mizuno running shoes, Mizuno day packs, Road ID gift certificates, Mellow Mushroom gift certificate, 2 passes for the Biltmore Estate, FIRST training books, SweeTea baseball caps, running gear from Jus Running, maybe more. If you and your team are planning to attend the Awards Ceremony and therefore participate in the post-Relay drawing, the drawing tag from the bottom of your bib numbers must be removed and entered during packet pick-up on Thursday night or Friday morning at the Start.
FREE ENTRY in 2009 for the team that raises the largest donation to the Avon Foundation’s Need for Speed Campaign Against Domestic Violence. The minimum raised to be eligible is $2,500. This award will not be awarded at the Awards Ceremony.
That’s it for now. Remain safe and healthy during this final week.
Please contact us if we could assist in any way.
Kind regards,
Ken
