Instructions for Presenters
UW Medical Education Research and Scholarship Forum
All presentations must be focused on research or scholarship in medical education. This can include:
your own research findings (preliminary or final)
research or scholarship activities within your department / unit
research and scholarship ideas (e.g. an idea for a new curricular approach)
selecting a paper to discuss and leading the journal club discussion
It’s okay (and encouraged!) to present ideas on which you’d like feedback
Remember this is a diverse group, with varying levels of expertise and interest – consider this as you prepare your talk (we can send you the list of current participants at your request). At our first meeting, the group expressed interest in the following:
what med ed research is going on at UW?
collaboration around integrating simulation (electronic, SPs, etc.)
collaboration around digital opportunities/software
learning about new educational tools
how to generally improve the ways we teach
learning how to bring evidence to what and how we teach
impact and dissemination
interest in learning theory
grant opportunities
educational resources that can be used in WWAMI & training people for rural practice
list of resources on the blog for upcoming medical education conferences and journal deadlines
At the end of your talk, prepare to pose one or two questions you want the group to brainstorm on or help answer (to get conversation moving)
If we have two presentations time limit is 20 minutes per presentation, with 10 minutes for Q&A at the end (total 30 min each)
If we have one presentation time limit is 30 minutes, with 10 min Q&A (total 40 min), which leaves us ~30 min for a journal discussion
