Just what is Little League??

The North Story County Little League (NSCLL) was chartered in 2000 and is affiliated with Little League Baseball Incorporated, which holds the well-known Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA each summer. This is our tenth year of operation, and we have seen a growth from 35 kids in 2000 to over 300 last year, from three teams to twenty-nine teams. NSCLL teams have kids in the Roland-Story, Gilbert, Colo-Nesco, South Hamilton, and Hubbard-Radcliffe areas. The league is focused on development of skills and has a mandatory play requirement, as well as a continuous batting order in the regular season. NSCLL’s objective is to implant firmly in the children of this community the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, courage, and respect for authority.

Who can play?

All boys and girls ages 9 to 16 are eligible for participation on our baseball teams. Participation eligibility and league age is based upon the child’s age on April 30, 2009. Players compete in four different age groups: Little League Minors (9 and 10 year olds), Little League Majors (11 and 12 year olds), Junior League (13 and 14 year olds) and Senior League (15 and 16 year olds). The League also allows 2008-2009 3rd graders to participate, even if not 9 years old by April 30, 2009.

Player Registration – February 15 and 21

NSCLL will hold player registration sign-ups at both the Story City American Legion and the Roland Library Annex. Sign-up times are from 2:30 to 4:00 pm on both Sunday, February 15th and Saturday, February 21st. If choosing this method please bring your doctor contact info, and last tetanus shot info. If you wish, you may pre-print the forms from the league website. Or you may register by mail. Mark your calendars

On March 7th we will conduct a skills assessment (not a tryout) for players in the Minors and Majors Divisions in the R-S High School South Gym. The skills assessment process consists of the players completing running, throwing, hitting, and pitching drills. Coaches observe the drills and make notes about the different players. The next day, the coaches conduct a player draft and players are assigned to teams. All registered players are placed on a team and our goal is to have balanced, competitive teams. Though not mandatory, please have your child attend the skills assessment; they will enjoy the activities and it helps the coaches accomplish the goal of balanced teams. Have them bring their glove, and bat if they have one. League age 9 & 10s meet from 9AM to 10:45 and 11 & 12s go from 11AM to 12:30. Parents may stay and observe if they wish.

Spring Cleaning

Each year we conduct fieldwork days at each of the baseball fields that are used for Little League practices and games. The work consists of removing leaves and debris, repairing fencing, mowing grass, dragging the infields, replacing sod, and cleaning concession and equipment storage rooms. A field inspection is also completed to verify that the field will provide a safe environment for the ball players. This year field work days will be held on April 4. Please contact League President Mike Wilgenbusch if you can help.

HEY SURFERS!

North Story County Little League (NSCLL) is on the web. For the latest info on what’s happening go to www.eteamz.com/nscll. Bookmark it, you will need it for the season! You will find game schedules, standings, league news, links to other baseball sites, and more. You can also check out the Official International Little League site at www.littleleague.org.

Help! Help! Help!

NSCLL is a community organization dedicated to the youth of our area. Please consider volunteering your time as a coach, assistant coach, umpire, concession stand operator, or field maintenance helper. There are also several committees that need volunteer help to administer league activities (Public Relations, Concessions, Baseball Operations, Player Agents, and Special Projects). Any time you can contribute would be greatly appreciated! Please sign-up as a volunteer at the February 15 or February 21 player registration, or contact Larry Ford at 388-4140 or Eric Weaver at 733-5236.
