Welcome to the Odyssey Movie Project!

Between now and the end of the fourth quarter, you will be very busy.  With your ENG223 colleagues, you'll write a screenplay, design costumes, shoot footage, compose music, edit your movie, and share what you've made.  Along the way, you'll keep a journal of the trials, tribulations, and triumphs you encounter.

Enough of this prattle.  This is a long and difficult process, and you'll need all the time you can get.  So let's get started, shall we?

With whom will I be working?
The people in your section of ENG223, for the most part.  There will be a roving Continuity & Problem-Solving Crew that will move between all three classes.

Will I work on this at school or at home?
Yes.  English class time will be spent, with a few exceptions, on tasks associated with this project (organizing groups, creating storyboards, writing scripts, coming up with shooting schedules and props lists, maybe even doing some taping).  You are expected to put in plenty of time outside of school as well--this project contains most of your homework for the rest of the year.

I'm a GHS Honors student.  How will I be graded?  C'mon, tell me!  PLEASE?
You'll be assessed on your participation in this project (with anecdotal evidence in class and filmmaking journal entries providing a snapshot of what you've done), your mastery of screenwriting, your demonstration of familiarity with The Odyssey, and the creativity and extra effort you bring to this project.  The more you do, and the better you work with others, the better your grade will be.

What's this "filmmaking journal" of which you speak?
A short piece of daily writing, done in the last few minutes of class every day, in which you answer the following questions:  What did I accomplish today?  What didn't I accomplish today? What do I need to do for next class?  What are some thoughts, concerns, problems that I need to address?

Writing a screenplay with a committee of almost 30 people is going to be a mess, isn't it?
Hopefully not.  We'll be using a website called PlotBot to help keep things organized.  Instructions for using it are included in this folder.  Those of you who have some experience using wikis will find this very easy to use.  The rest of you will be just fine.
