Farmers' Market newsletter for Feb 6   

 The market is open every Sat from 8 AM until sometime after noon
                                 (year round)

 
      We will be beginning our fourth year sometime this Spring.
 
     Things to look for this Saturday:  baked goods (breads, cookies & pies), artisan Texas cheeses, Texas citrus, freshly ground corn-meal, organic chicken, free-range eggs, tilapia fish, flowers, jewelry, plants, preserves and local produce (green & purple cabbage; collard, mustard & turnip greens; onions; potatoes, butternut squash & sweet potatoes)
 
     Wednesday Market (same hours):  Shanna Baggett will have tilapia fish for sale and Ray Wallace will be selling freshly ground corn meal and sweet potatoes.  James Lynch is planning to be at the Wednesday market, starting January 27, with produce from his greenhouse.

                        FARMERS' MARKET NEWSLETTER - Feb 6


          NOTICE TO CUSTOMERS AND VENDORS:   All items for sale are required to be locally grown or locally made.


           New items will be in bold print

   

         Vendors are listed in order starting with Dr Gregory in booth #1 closest to Main St.      

 

         #1  Dr Gregory will have a new supply of the original artisan gouda cheese from the panhandle (his supplier decided to come out of retirement).  He will also have oxalis bulbs, Texas citrus, cut flowers, greens (collard & mustard), fresh herbs (arrugula, cilantro, oregano, parsley, rosemary and sorrel), cedar mulch, potted plants, small trees (redbud & fig) and fruit wood for BBQ.  Dr Gregory will also have home made goat cheese from Cleveland, smoked gouda from Waco, artisan gouda cheese from Cameron, Texas and artisan cheddar cheeses (jalapeno, sharp cheddar and caraway) from Dublin, Texas.  He will also have free tadpoles for kids.


       #3  James Lynch will be selling onions (red & yellow sweet), potatoes (Irish & red) and sweet potatoes.  He will also have frozen peas (butter beans, cream, crowder, English, lima, pinto beans & purple hull), frozen (blackberries, okra, peppers, corn & squash), pear preserves, blackberry jam, blueberry jam, chow chow and pickles (cucumber, onion, squash & beet). 

 

          #4  La Verna Pirkle has a small organic farm in Alto.  She will be selling Texas citrus, onions, potatoes, frozen blueberries and frozen carrots. 


          #4  I will have shopping bags and Farmers' Market t-shirts (the new strawberry design) for sale.  I will have free coloring books and crayons, too.    

 

        #5  Dian Avriett will be back this Saturday  She sells jams, jellies, relishes, and salsas. Also - pies and cookies, and local raw honey.  She will also be selling eggs.

 

         #6  Cindy Hoyt is planning to be back this Saturday.  She plans to be at the market for several months until she is scheduled to reopen her herb farm in Kennard.  She sells herb plants, home-made all natural healing salve, heirloom seeds, hand-made soaps, herbal teas all from her farm in Kennard:  www.pineywoodsherbfarm.com  

   
       #6  Lauren Ann Woodall is planning to be back this Saturday.   She sells hand-made glass sun catchers and glass jewelry made from "upcycled" (tumbled recycled glass).

  
        #7  Barbara Cherry will be back February 13 (they set up every other Saturday) selling their free-range drug-free pasture-raised poultry and eggs.


         #7 Shanna Baggett will be selling tilapia fish fillets.

 

       #8  Mamie Anthony will set up Saturday.  She sells hand-made crocheted items (scarves, hats, baby blankets, baby dresses, hot pads & dish towels) and jewelry.

 

         #9  George Millard will have Texas citrus (grapefruit & oranges), greens (mustard & turnip), butternut squash & sweet potatoes.  He also will be selling frozen peas and beans  (purple hull peas, lady cream peas, zipper cream peas, brown crowder peas, black-eyed peas, cream peas, butter beans and baby Lima beans).  He will also have ribbon cane syrup and honey from Helm Farms in Alto. 
 
       
#10   Carol Dormady will be back this Saturday.  She bakes and sells White, Farmhouse, Wheat, Multigrain, Sourdough, Apple walnut, ciabatta, Renaissance bread (whole-wheat sourdough), French baguettes, Caramelized onion, Raisin swirl, and Cinnamon raisin, and Challah (eggy sweet bread).  English muffins - Plain, Wheat, and Cinnamon raisin.  She will also have bagels (plain, pumpkin, poppy, wheat, cinnamon raisin, garlic-onion-pepper, asiago cheese, blueberry) and scones (chocolate-chip, orange cranberry, apple walnut, blueberry,Lemon cranberry, lemon poppy, pumpkin, Apple pie).           #11   Gregory Lide of Sacred Springs Organic Farm will be at the market this Saturday, distributing shares and accepting new members for his CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm.  It is time to buy shares for the Spring season.  Gregory will also be selling free range organic eggs.

 

       #12  William Hoffman will be back with pound cakes, tea cakes and cookies.

 

         Patti Hand (Fireflies in the Pines) will be back with her new seasonal fragrances. She sells Soy Candles with cotton coreless wicks, Perfume Rollers, Goat's Milk Soap, Lotion and Cream. Regular Lotion, Shower Gel/Shampoo, Smelly Jelly, Room Sprays that can also double as a body spray, and Antimicrobial Liquid Soap. New Miniature Spritzers that fit in your purse or pocket.            Ray Wallace will be selling freshly ground white & yellow corn meal for Will Godwin at the weigh station (the brick building close to Pearl St).  He can also do custom grinding upon request (wheat berries, etc).  He will also have sweet potatoes.

         Bryan & Cindy Pruett will be back February 13 with organic produce from their Appleby Community Farm.  They will have cabbage (green & purple), greens (collard, kale, mustard and spinach), herbs and green onions.           I don't know when Rebecca McMurtry will be back.  She sells baskets, ceramics, dog treats, natural herb soaps and woodcrafts...garden art.

 

          I don't know if Dale Branstine will be back.  He sells free range eggs.

 

         Randi Jacobs will be back in a couple of months when she gets her inventory built back up.  She makes beautiful pottery (vases, bowls, cups, coffee mugs & teapots). 

 

        Marilyn Richardson and Steve Chism won't be back till March, selling cut glass made from recycled bottles (by Steve Chism - C & R Kutt Bottle).  (They set up once every month).  They will be selling drinking glasses, goblet candles (made with soy), tapered candle holders, cup candle holders, flower vases,
self-watering planters, wind chimes and hurricane lamps.  Check out their tumbled glass beads.  All proceeds go to 'Habitat for Humanity'.

 

         Eddie Sturgis and George Partin won't be back till February or March, when they will have starter plants to sell.

 

          Josie Crowson will be back later in the Spring when she has some flowers to sell.  She sells cut flowers (calla lilies, celosia, sunflowers, snapdragons and other Fall flowers).  She also sells mason jar bouquets and takes special orders.

 

         Rachel McDowell will be back selling her home-made earrings when the weather warms up.

 

        Lori Crawford will be selling produce from their farm in Timpson starting the end of April or the beginning of May.

 

         I don't know when the SFA Horticulture Club will be back with plants from the SFA arboretum.  They sell Bottle trees, Chinese fringe bushes, camellias, ferns, house plants, Japanese maples, juniper, kale, ornamental grasses, sage and much, much more.  They also sell t-shirts and are available for yard-work.


        I don't know when Karen Perkins (Peace Field Farm) will be back with her fresh, pasture raised, naturally processed eggs.

        I don't know when Andrew, Daniel and Erin  from the Glasslake
Farm (near Overton) plan to be back.  They sell organic produce
including eggplant, garlic, peppers (Bell, cayenne, habanera &
jalapeno) and okra.  They will also be selling blackberry plants and
rosemary.

        Fran Heard is recovering from a broken leg and won't be back for awhile.   She sells organic produce and starter plants.

        Diana Loring will be back, but I don't know when. She sells

        Betty Johnson is back home recovering from open heart surgery (She had a heart valve replaced) and will be back at the market in late March or early April. 

        Roy Rigby will be back Dec 12, maybe (He usually sets up on
the second Saturday of every month).  He sells 90% lean organic
Belgian Blue Beef from Bell Brook Farms:  ground beef (90% & 98%
lean), steaks, brisket and roasts.

        Tony Bramlett will be back in the Spring.  He sells all kinds
of plants.
        
        Terry Briggs will be back next Spring.  She sells different
varieties of ornamental grasses such as Little Bunny, Little Kitten,
Adagio, Variegatus, Lindheimer muhly, gulf muhly, "Heavy Metal'
switchgrass and many others.
