                                FARMERS' MARKET NEWSLETTER - Nov 14

          NOTICE TO CUSTOMERS:   All items for sale are required to be locally grown or locally made.

 

          Don't forget to check out the Wednesday market.  James Lynch, George Partin and Eddie Sturgis will be selling produce and Shanna Baggett will be selling farm raised fish (tilapia), fish water fertilizer and farm eggs.  There will also be freshly ground corn meal for sale.  They will be there in the morning just like on Saturdays.

         List of produce that is currently in season and that you might find at the market this Saturday.  Included are: blueberries (frozen & frozen concenterate), cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, green beans, greens (collard, kale, mustard & turnip), herbs (arrugla, Holy basil, Thai basil, sweet leaf basil, cilantro, apple mint, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sorrel and thyme), Romaine lettuce, onions (white & yellow), oranges, parsley, unshelled pecans, peppers (Bell, banana, cayenne, jalapenos & sweet), persimmons, potatoes (red & white), radishes, squash (acorn, butternut, pumpkin, yellow & zucchini), sweet potatoes, tomatoes (green & regular) and turnips.

       Mark Huisman will be back for the first time in more than a year with his collection of fine hand-made jewelry (gemstones, sterling silver & gold).

 

       William Hoffman will have wooden Christmas decorations for your front yard.

 

         #1  Dr Gregory will have greens (mustard & collard), persimmons, Asian pears, cedar mulch, cut flowers, oxalis bulbs, potted plants, Saint Augustine grass, fruit wood for BBQ, small trees (redbud & fig) and fresh herbs. (arrugula, cilantro, oregano, parsley,  rosemary and sorrel).  Dr Gregory will also have frozen blueberries, frozen blueberry concentrate, home made goat cheese from Cleveland, smoked gouda from Waco, artisan gouda cheese from Cameron, Texas and artisan cheddar cheeses (jalapeno, sharp cheddar and caraway) from Dublin, Texas.  He will also have free tadpoles for kids.

 

         #2   I don't know when Fran Heard will be back.   She sells organic produce and starter plants.

 

       #2  Bryan and Cindy Pruett will back this Saturday.  They will have greens (mustard, collard and kale), herbs (apple mint, oregano, Thai basil, sweet leaf basil, holy basil, thyme, and parsley), Romaine lettuce, squash (yellow, butternut squash, acorn and pumpkin), radishes.  They are starting a CSA (Community Supported

       #3  James Lynch will be at the market this Saturday.  He will be selling cucumbers, yellow sweet onions, peppers (cayenne & sweet), red potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and squash (yellow & zucchini).  He will also have frozen peas (butter beans, cream, crowder, English, lima, pinto beans & purple hull), frozen (blackberries, okra, peppers, corn & squash), pear preserves, blackberry jam, blueberry jam, chow chow and pickles (cucumber, onion, squash & beet).

  
         #4  La Verna Pirkle will be here again this Saturday.  She has a small organic farm in Alto.  She will have yellow onions, pecans, Japanese persimmons and potatoes (red & white).  She will also have blueberries (frozen), beans (black-eyed peas, pinto and white northern beans - fresh shelled, blanched & frozen) and carrots (blanched/frozen).  Try out her ready to cook vegetables: (sliced carrots and potato/carrot/onion mix).  She will also have two kinds of heirloom okra seeds, irises, cannas & multiplier onion sets.

 
         #4  I will be selling  shopping bags and Farmers' Market t-shirts (the new strawberry design) and CD's made by local musicians (Cele Knight's Christmas album, Darcy, Steven James & Chris Edwards).  I should have free coloring books and crayons, too.   

 

 

      #5  Dian Avriett won't be at the market this Saturday.  She will have honey (local raw), assorted wild jams and jellies (elderberry, mayhaw, muscadine, mustang grape & wild plum), jalapeno jelly, squash relish, salsa, pumpkin bread, pecan pies, sweet potato pies, butternut squash pies, harvest cake, shelled pecans and eggs. 

 

         #6  Josie Crowson will be here Saturday.  She sells cut flowers (sunflowers, snapdragons, celosia and other Fall flowers).  She also sells mason jar bouquets and takes special orders.
 
       #6  I don't know if Dallia Pantalion will be back.  She sells Fall decorative items including candy bowls,  jewelry, swags and wreaths. 

 

        #7 Shanna Baggett will be selling tilapia fish fillets, raw organic fish water fertilizer and frozen purple hull peas.

 

         #7 The Cherry's will be back this Saturday.  They sell drug-free free-range pasture-raised poultry and grass fed ground beef from T-Bar Farms.  They will also have eggs.

 

        #8  Mamie Anthony will be back this week. She sells hand-made crocheted items (scarves, hats, baby blankets, baby dresses, hot pads & dish towels) and jewelry.

 

         #9  George Millard will have carrots, greens (collard, mustard & turnip), green beans, okra,  squash (butternut & yellow), sweet potatoes, tomatoes (green & red) and turnips.  He also will be selling frozen peas and beans  (purple hull peas, lady cream peas, zipper cream peas, brown crowder peas, black-eyed peas, cream peas, butter beans and baby Lima beans).  He will also have ribbon cane syrup from Helm Farms in Alto.

 

        #10 Karen Perkins (Peace Field Farm) will have fresh, pasture raised, naturally processed eggs this Saturday.

 

        #10   Carol Dormady will be back this Saturday.  She bakes and sells White, Farmhouse, Wheat, Multigrain, Sourdough, Apple walnut, ciabatta, Renaissance bread (wholewheat sourdough), French baguettes, Caramelized onion, Raisin swirl, and Cinnamon raisin, and Challah (eggy sweet bread).  English muffins - Plain, Wheat, and Cinnamon raisin.  She will also have bagels (plain, pumpkin, poppy, wheat, cinnamon raisin, garlic-onion-pepper, asiago cheese, blueberry) and scones (chocolate-chip, orange cranberry, apple walnut, blueberry,Lemon cranberry, lemon poppy, pumpkin, Apple pie).          #11   Gregory Lide of Sacred Springs Organic Farm will be distributing shares and accepting new members for his CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm this Saturday.  Gregory will also be selling free range organic eggs.

 

        #12  Eddie Sturgis will have yellow onions , oranges, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and free range eggs. He will also have pear preserves.

 

        #13  George Partin will have onions (white & yellow), peppers (banana, Bell & jalapeno), sugar cane, sweet potatoes and tomatoes.

 

         Patti Hand (Fireflies in the Pines) will be back with her new seasonal fragrances. She sells Soy Candles with cotton coreless wicks, Perfume Rollers, Goat's Milk Soap, Lotion and Cream. Regular Lotion, Shower Gel/Shampoo, Smelly Jelly, Room Sprays that can also double as a body spray, and Antimicrobial Liquid Soap. New Miniature Spritzers that fit in your purse or pocket.          Ray will be selling freshly ground corn meal for Will Godwin   (white and yellow) at the weigh station (the brick building close to Pearl St).  He can also do custom grinding upon request (wheat berries, etc).

              Marilyn Richardson will be back December 5 selling cut glass made from recycled bottles (by Steve Chism - C & R Kutt Bottle) this Saturday  (They set up the first Saturday of every month).  She will be selling drinking glasses, goblet candles (made with soy), tapered candle holders, cup candle holders, flower vases, self-watering planters, wind chimes and hurricane lamps.  Check out their tumbled glass beads.  All proceeds go to 'Habitat for Humanity'.

        I don't know when Andrew, Daniel and Erin  from the Glasslake Farm (near Overton) plan to be back.  They sell organic produce including eggplant, garlic, peppers (Bell, cayenne, habanera & jalapeno) and okra.  They will also be selling blackberry plants and rosemary.

 

           The SFA Horticulture Club will be back Nov 14 with plants from the SFA arboretum.  They will have Bottle trees, Chinese fringe bushes, camellias, ferns, house plants, Japanese maples, juniper, kale, ornamental grasses, sage and much, much more.  They will also have t-shirts and are available for yard-work.

 

         I don't know when Connie Patton will be back with fresh farm eggs.

        Betty Johnson will be recovering from open heart surgery till some time in December (She had a heart valve replaced...the surgery went well). 

          Roy Rigby will be back Nov 14 maybe (He usually sets up on the second Saturday of every month).  He sells 90% lean organic Belgian Blue Beef from Bell Brook Farms:  ground beef (90% & 98% lean), steaks, brisket and roasts.

 

         Tony Bramlett to be back in the Spring.  He sells all kinds of plants... angel trumpets, hanging baskets, etc.

        Rachel McDowell may be back in November. She sells home-made jewelry (earrings)  She will also have crouched scarves and caps and royal empress trees.


 
       Terry Briggs will be back next Spring.  She sells different varieties of ornamental grasses such as Little Bunny, Little Kitten, Adagio, Variegatus, Lindheimer muhly, gulf muhly, "Heavy Metal' switchgrass and many others.

 

        Barbara Campbell from Diboll will be back selling perennial flowers in the Fall maybe.

 

         John Mosele is sold out of ribbon cane syrup and won't be back until he gets a new supply in the Fall.

 

          G W Scott will be back in the Fall with more flower bulbs.

 

         Hank Bachman may be back sometime (maybe in the Fall) with plants and produce.

 

         Louis Duffield won't be back until next Spring.  He will have organic produce from his farm (STONEY-BROOK PEACHES  www.stoney-brookfarm.com ).  He will also have blueberry and blackberry plants available at his farm.

 

         Tonya won't be back till next year with watermelon and purple hull peas. 


         I don't know when Wayne Hyatt will be back.  He sells free range eggs.
