GAUGE
30 st / 42 rows = 10 cm / 4’’ over stockinette stitch
Abbreviation
k: knit

ssk: slip one st, slip one st, k2tog through back loop
k2tog: knit 2 st together
rnd: round
LEG
Cast on 60 st, divide the st. evenly on 4 dpns, join for working in the round, and being careful not to twist the st.
Work the ribbing as follows:
K2, p2 (k4, p2) 9 times, k2 for 10 rnds.
Then begin chart Impressionnisme socks leg pattern, on both front and back of the sock. Work from row 1 to 12. 4 times, or more if you want to make the leg longer, being careful to stop at the end of rnd 12.
HEEL
Heel flap will be worked on the next30 st, back and forth following the Impressionnisme socks heel chart.
Work from row 1 to 12, twice, then from row 1 to 8 once, 32 rows worked. You can make the heel flap longer, but don’t forget to pick up more stitches for the gusset.
Now you can turn the heel as follow:
Row 1 (RS): slip 1 as if to purl with yarn in front, k18, ssk, k1, turn
Row 2 (WS): p 10, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 3 (RS): k 11, ssk, k1, turn
Row 4 (WS): p 12, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 5 (RS): k 13, ssk, k1, turn
Row 6 (WS): p 14, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 7 (RS): k 15, ssk, k1, turn
Row 8 (WS): p 16, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 9 (RS): k 17, ssk, k1, turn
Row 10 (WS): slip 1 as if to purl with yarn in front, p 17, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 11 (RS): slip 1 as if to knit with yarn in back, k19
Now you are ready to pick-up stitches for gusset.
Pick-up and knit 17 st along left side of the heel flap, work the next 30 instep st following Impressionnisme leg pattern (keeping the continuity of the pattern, here rnd 1), pick-up and knit 17 st along right side of the heel flap, knit the first 10 st of the heel, this is the new beginning of the round.
Gusset
Set-up row: Knit 27 st, knit 30 st following Impressionnisme leg pattern (keeping the continuity of the pattern, here rnd 2), knit 27 st.
Decreasing gusset:
Rnd 1: knit 24 st, k2tog, k1, work 30 instep st following Impressionnisme leg pattern (keeping the continuity of the pattern, here rnd 3), k1, ssk, k 24.
Rnd 2: knit sole and gusset st, work instep following chart Impressionnisme leg pattern
Continue working these 2 rounds decreasing 2 st every other rnd, until you reach 60 st in total (30 sole st. and 30 instep st.)
FOOT
Continue working following the chart Impressionnisme leg pattern until you reach 6cm (2.5 inch) less than total desired foot length.
Toe
Set-up rnd: knit 15 st (to the end of the sole st), and begin new rnd here before the instep stitches.
Rnd 1: k1, ssk, k to last 3 st, k2tog, k1; on sole st k1, ssk, knit to 3 last st), k2tog, k1.
Rnd 2: knit
Repeat these 2 rnd, decreasing 4 st every other rnd until 32 st remains, then repeat rnd 1 every rnd until it remains 8 st.
FINISHING
Break yarn. With a sewing needle pull through the remaining stitches and weave in ends.
