BlueLine Basics

Logging into BlueLine
Access BlueLine through the Faculty & Staff page from the Creighton homepage. There is a BlueSuite link on the right side of the page.
Mouse over BlueSuite and the link to BlueLine will appear.
Use your NetID and Blue Password to log in.
*Important Information
  • In Explorer & Firefox -- Allow pop-ups
  • The Safari browser is not supported. Mac users (Faculty, Staff and Students) need to download and install Firefox 2.

Entering your course

Simply click on the Course title inside the Courses nugget


Enabling Your Course [Allowing student access]
Inside the Course nugget click on the course you want to enable
1. Click on the Manage tab
2. Click the General Course Settings link (in Course Settings nugget)
3. In the Access Settings (last section), click drop down arrow in Member Access box and select All Members
4. Click Save button

Creating Course Content
[The Lessons Tab]


There are several content types you can add to your course. All content types have three rules.

All course materials are created in and accessed under the Lessons Tab.

You create your course materials in the same location that your students access it -- under the Lessons tab.

The instructor controls the organization of course materials under the Lessons Tab. The organization of folders, content and presentation is up to the instructor (course editor).

Add course content

1. Enter your course
2. Click on the Lessons Tab
3. Click on the Add Content Link
4. Select the Content type you want to add to your course.


Content Setting view
Content settings are presented under tabs. There are three basic settings tabs
Content Tab
All content types need a title. The Subtitle is not required.
Access Tab
Here you set who can access this content. By default anyone enrolled in the course has access to any content under the Lessons tab.
Assignment Tab
You can add a content item to the gradebook in the assignment tab. You can either make it a new assignment, or link it to an existing assignment in the gradebook.
Click save AFTER determining all the content settings.

*Each content item, Folder, Page, Assessment, etc., have slightly different tabs that allow a faculty member to edit various settings.


Changing Course Content Settings
 
After you create a new content item, you can edit the settings by selecting the "settings" link that appears below the item's title when you mouse over. Clicking the settings link sends you the tabbed settings view.

Additionally, you can grade items such as drop box submissions and discussion boards through the "Utilities" menu item.

All content types can be created inside of a Folder. To add a new content item, click on the "Add Content" link under the folder name, when you are INSIDE the folder.


Composing an Email [The Communicate Tab]

BlueLine has a built in email client allowing you to send anyone enrolled in your course an email.
To send an email select the "Quick Message" link inside the "Course Mail" nugget

This will take you to the Compose view of BlueLine's email client.
There are several steps to take to compose an email in BlueLine.
  1. Click on the To button to select your email recipients.
  2. Select your recipients by clicking once on their name. The text area around the name will turn a darker grey.
  3. Click another To button to add the name to your send list
  4. Click the OK button
  5. Once back in the compose view, give your email a subject and type in your message as you normally would. Then click on the Send button in the bottom left corner.
Using the mail client you can select all course students, individuals or faculty. Additionally, if you created teams you can email to specific teams.


Using Student Preview [What Students See]

You can see how your students will see your course content by using the student preview mode.

1. Click on the Eyeglasses icon in the upper right corner of the screen, next to your name.
2. Select "Student" rights to preview your course
3. Click the Continue button.
You will enter your course with student rights. You will not see the Manage or Automate tabs, or have rights to edit any content.

*To return to the course editor view, click on the sunglasses again.

Your course needs to be enable for student preview to work.
